Some Improvements & Some Big Problems (Toyota Hilux GR Sport 2024 review)

Detailed review of the Toyota Hilux GR Sport, including power increase, price, specs, ride quality, payload issues and more.

Late in its life, the Toyota Hilux has been supplemented with a 2024 GR Sport variant that bumps the 2.8-litre engine power to 165kW and adds a host of aesthetic and mechanical changes to beef up the off-road capability and cosmetic appeal.

But is it enough? And what is the payload concern you must know about if you tow heavy loads?

Rivals to the Hilux GR Sport include the Ford Ranger Wildtrak and Raptor, Volkswagen Amarok PanAmericana, Nissan Navara Warrior, GWM Cannon XSR and others.

Im due for a new ute and ordered my gr sport last week. This ute has most of the extras I would put on a standard hilux already on it. So it just makes sense for me. I like the simplicity on the interior ++ like the rock sliders / steps being small and narrow.
Time will tell I guess. Btw I am selling my Isuzu Dteq after 9 years of great service.

Gday Chasing Cars, Out of curiosity, what PSI were you running when testing off and on road?

Whoever tows in a ute at its limit needs their head checked, just because manufactures put a 3.5ton rating on there doesn't mean the car actually will be able to properly tow that much without struggling like crazy around the smallest of hills and bends

It’s a Toyota so it doesn’t really matter if it’s good enough. A certain segment of people will buy literally anything they put out.

I’m not a Ranger Raptor owner nor a fan, but no other ute comes close to its performance and appearance. You heard it here first folks. 🤪

Unbelievable, no AWD mode in 2023. Ranger and Triton have it.

Too heavy, to stay under the limit at least, for towing my 3.2 tone tailer...
