Dual enrollment was for me. I have graduated and took almost all of my classes for my A.A. for free. Teachers sometimes make AP hard for no reason. You don’t even know what is going to be on the test sometimes. But when you do dual enrollment then you know exactly what is going to be on the test. Trust me that college is not cheap so pls take that free money. Btw i am in FL so it might be different in other states.

For everyone who is looking at AP: *PASSING THE CLASS IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE TEST* and read that 3 more times. I failed both the ap tests i took this year but passed both classes with an A. University's that see your grades when you turn them in or going to be way more impressed at the fact that you were able to pass a rigorous class like that than credits. If anything they Don't want you to earn credits, bc that loses them money. Passing the class shows them that you are capable of handling a very rigorous course. Don't put a lot if importance on the test, it's just 1 or 2 credits, and they're usually ones that you can earn for *free* through dual.

Here are my tips as an ap student:
(Taken 3 and taking 5 this year)
1. Don't take AP if you want to stay in state. DE classes WILL transfer in-state and CAN out if state but not always
2. Don't spend three hours going through one chapter. Skim it and find a chapter summary online so you get the main idea and some needed details quickly. It'll take a minute to get used to but after it's soo much easier
3. Use Quizlet
4. Have one notebook per class don't use a binder. You will lose your notes
5. Take breaks but try to stay away from your phone
6. Go to sleep. Don't stay up for an assignment your teacher will most likely give you more time
7. You don't need AP prep books. Ask for your old tests and use those as practice. Teachers base their tests off of the real exam.
8. Dress comfortable exam day the test take hours
9. Lastly your scores don't define your intelligence (they score it weirdly anyways)

My personal experience: Dual Enrollment is great to get some quick classes out of the way for credit. However AP classes tend to be better learning experiences, and tend to expand on the content in a one year spans rather than like, 7 weeks. Take with that what you will.

This popped up in my recommendations and I just want to stop by and say (as a 24yo who got my bachelor’s and master’s in 5 years), TAKE DUAL ENROLLMENT CLASSES. You won’t regret it. I got all of my core English and History classes out of the way in high school and didn’t have to be bothered with reading passages and writing essays or waking up early to listen to an unenthusiastic history professor drone on about History. Best college decision I ever made. Good luck to all of you about to graduate high school and start college 🥰

I don't think I'll ever enroll in any AP classes it's just not my style but I hate how there's this kind of stigma(at least where I live) where it's like if you don't take AP classes you're lazy or you aren't smart or stuff like that. Like no, with the career and path I wanna go down in life, AP academic classes just don't offer anything for me(if that makes sense)

i never realized you had to pay for AP tests. my school paid for everybody's test, but you had to be sure to register before the september deadline. those of you going into high school, i recommend taking AP classes in subjects that you enjoy learning about.

Take advantage to all the dual enrollment you can! I would even recommend going to community college and getting the credits for your general education classes (which aren’t related to your major). You’re saving money and you could transfer to a 4-year university.

As someone who did ap and dual enrollment all throughout highschool (freshman-senior year) :

Dual enrollment will definately come in clutch. You can get more college credits, as it's 1 "class" per semester vs 1 per year. I'd highly reccomend if your not that good of a cummalative test taker because AP exams took me tf out. Id highly reccomend dual enrollment if you plan on staying in the state that your earning them in.

If you plan on leaving your state/country for college. I'd definately take AP course instead of dual enrollment. This is because dual enrollment credits are usually earned by a specific neighboring college/university. For instance, im from Florida so my credits came from BC and FIU. the problem with dual enrollment(DE) is that because it's linked to specific institutions it may be difficult for you to match those credits towards a degree because differing course descriptions. For example DE national gov from Broward College, may not translate to national gov for whichever college your transferring too. So you might have to take ANOTHER nationalgov course at said institution

Another plus to AP courses is thats its nationally accepted. So wherever you go in the states, and even some other countries, you'd get the credits transferred no problemo.

And to expand on what she said about some colleges on accepting AP scores of 3+ that is very true. When applying for colleges I found that community/state colleges are more lenient on the scores vs private university. For instance. At BC if you took AP Lang, and you got a 3 your exempt from taking english1, (as your AP credit counts toward your degree) . like I said before, its different depending on the university. Some universities accept only except 4s or 5s on AP exam. The university im currently attending. Exempts english1 if you got a 4 in AP land, and if you got a 5, your exempt from English 1 and 2.
