Ham Radio is Fun! Ham Road Trip

I don't think there is a better way to vacation! We took a trip from Wisconsin to Alabama and back and stopped in to see a few ham friends along the way. We got to play radio in person with those that we've only talked to remotely before. It was a great trip.

Ham radio seems to be useless while traveling.

I made a trip through NC, VA, TN and looked up at least twelve 2 Meter and 6 Meter noted the tones as listed.
I was unable to make any contacts, couldn't bring up several of the repeaters using the listed tones over the 5 days.

I even called several times on 146.520 and 52.525 and received no responses.
