Why Is Everything So Cheap at Grocery Outlets?

There's a weird feeling when we walk in and see NAME BRAND products and half the price... how does that even happen? Well, it's interesting. Today I get a chance to go into the store and break it down for you. The main reason is due to the fact the outlet stores are selling OLD product. Now, it's not so old that it's bad for you, it just expires sooner than in the initial stores, so it can be marked down to help clear out inventory without too much of a loss. Did you know this? Let me know in the comments if you shop at discount stores like this!

Yeah, we know. I don't give a shit. That bag of chips will be gone in a week.

People dont get alarmed by expiration dates. Those dates are for retail to move off shelves. At home, if stored properly, things last longer if not consumed right away.

This is actually a great thing. The food isn’t being wasted and people are saving money. Better financially and for the environment.

It’s a win, win.

Kroger has food that expires really soon, and full price.

Grocery Outlet is fantastic. We should check the expiration date at every store. Another thing GO does is cut the price to less than 50% on random items like canned salmon Etcetera

It makes sense for people who have a bigger family who will probably eat or drink it before the date runs out

I love grocery outlet! Plus it’s a franchise and often owned by local families, win win! I go to grocery outlet for all my snacks and things I can find, then hit Giant for the few things I couldn’t. I stock up on my kids oatmilk, $1.99-2.99 for even the most expensive brands. It’s such a blessing to have 1 nearby!!

Fresh milk is good for 7 days past the date of sale and in that 7 days you have a chance to either use it or you can freeze it so it's still a deal

I love Grocery Outlet, what dirty little secret? Of course your gonna drink the milk right away, chips expire in a few weeks, its still good after it expires.

I bought a few Alaini Coffees that are normally 3.49 at the grocery store for 1.25 at a dollar tree and they didn't expire for over a year--the reason for this was it was a specialty flavor that wasn't selling super well, and some stores obviously wanted to get rid of it, but it actually tasted pretty good.

Even here in the Netherlands at the supermarkets they put special barcode stickers with lower prices on products that are gonna expire in a few weeks til a few days. I can buy a box of muffins that was around 3euros and buy them for 99cemts because they expire at the end of the week. This is better instead of wasting food and creating more garbage.

Old stock sold cheap before it expires and they have to throw it away' nothing devious unless you consider capitalism devious.
