A small difference between shi'i and sunni mahdi is that in shi'ism he's called "المهدي المنتظر"
Or the awaited mahdi. Giving him a messiah-like status.
While in sunni Islam he's someone who will come whenever the end times are near to unite muslims...mainly meaning he's not awaited. But will come whenever the end time comes. So sunnis aren't waiting for him to save them, they view him as more of a sign than a messiah

again, Mahdi is not the Messiah, he's simply just a righteous man, Yashua is the Messiah, there are no Sunni Islam or Shia Islam or Ahmadi Islam or whatever labels they try to put on Islam, there is only one Islam which is literally the submission to God and follow his commands cited in Quran and authentic narrations of the Prophet PBUH
I understand that you're trying to share what you learned, but it doesn't mean what you learned is the reality, the reality is that these labels is what created issues in the Muslim world since the death of the Prophet PBUH, when people tried to deviate from what Mohammed PBUH preached, true monotheism and submission to Allah, the creator of the worlds

Why does he say "so called" twelver shias. They are Imami shia who follow 12 Imams as mentioned by Prophet Muhammad (s)

Saoshyant (the one who brings benefits) as a saviour figure first appeared in Zoroastrian religion. Maitreya Buddha, Messiah, Mahdi, and many other promised saviour figures are likely to have their origins there (I.e. late Bronze Age/early Iron Age!!)

Shia's make it more prominent but its more logically in sunni theology about Mahdi believe.

Mahdi is someone who will bring justice to humanity after it has been engulfed in sins and darkness. He is from the bloodline of our prophet. The main difference between Sunni & Shia Muslims is that Sunni say he will be born while Shia say he was born already and he lives amongst us and usually travels & frequently stays in Makkah or Madina.

Both sects also believe that Jesus PBUH will pray behind Mohammd Al-Mahdi signifying that he is more knowledgeable than him and also that Islam is the religion that must be followed, bringing most people to Islam with the exception of a few who will follow the antichrist (aka Dajjal) which will lead to the final battle humanity will endure after which will bring peace and Utopian-like life to all of mankind.

For Ismailis, their Mahdi is alive. Interestingly, all the characters that Twelvers ascribe to Mahdi just pay attention to Aga Khan 4. He does whatever their Mahdi allegedly will do.
