• Does what you were taught about God contradict what you believe in your hear about love?

Really good points, Joshua. It took me 10 (maybe even 15) years to finally be honest with me. I quit believing in the Christian God, because I did my research and found that I didn't like the Biblical God that I grew up with. He was so tribal, judgmental, egotistical, immoral, etc. I was once a born-again, faithful, loving, sincere, and respectful Christian man who sought God everyday. But, once I really read the Bible, I was shocked at what I found, and I became more educated in Science; then, I saw how the Christian God was truly just a creation of the goat herders of the Bronze Age. Nothing more, nothing less. Jesus to me, even became foreign because he didn't speak out on slavery, woman's rights, biological knowledge (medical understanding versus demons & spirit infestations), etc. Easy to find material on the Internet. I left the Church and now am free FINALLY. No more mental baggage, snake oil, or Charlatans. I am free, free, free AT LAST. Thanks for your open-mindedness because the future will be full of more Free Thinkers. I can promise the Church that.

*I had what I can describe as an earthquake Holy Spirit conviction, a life changing experience which lasted about three or four months. Crying, on my knees begging for forgiveness, deep, DEEP repentance, many tears, desire to read the Bible and go to chirch. Asked for forgiveness from friends and ex-girlfriends, returned things stolen or payed for books I had taken, confessed to those I had lied to. Gave away money to the poor, had homeless people sleep in my apartment; it was anything but a mild or calculated feeling “in my head” that could be dismissed or explained away. There was nothing logical about it, the Spirit takes over you, you DO NOT WANT TO SIN. I was extremely sensitive during this time, like walking on egg shells. Logic and Spirit don’t mix and so I see all the reasons the Bible is contradictory, all the reasons people say Jesus could not have existed, and can see why it could be explained away as a “self generated delusion.” And it does not matter what they say bc they cannot understand the Spirit takes over you and how do I explain that? I have fallen a few times I ask for forgiveness, I can’t say I understand any of it. The Spirit came back after ten years and then three years after that and the experiences were the same: electric, intense, convictions, other worldly, cathartic. I read ex-Christian testimonies or atheists enumerating the reasons why it shouldn’t work. No one can argue argue against logic and yes it makes sense what they say but I have yet to hear an earth shaking experience w/ the Holy Spirit*

If I am hearing Josh right, the God he is saying NOT to believe in...doesn't even exist!  it is time to move on and discover the REAL God who is for you and not against you!  (read Josh's book and consider reading Steve McVey's book 'Beyond An Angry God' you will be super encouraged!!

i was a skeptic at first until deep darkness surrounded my life and everything i knew and loved was stripped from me. my health, dropping out of university, friends abandoned me, family forsaken me.. literally everything was stripped from me.. But God was with me... Peace and Love..

As a child before we can understand God we are raised in a religion our parents raised us in. We were too young to understand but since we were raised so young in the church that will be what we believe when we grow up. I think this is very sad.

I was brought up in a religious home as a child, Baptist that is, but didn't care much about it growing up. I knew that there was a God but couldn't really tell if he exist until one day he showed me who he really is.
From that point on everything made perfect sense about those being an atheist, those who put there hope in science, not knowing that any physical instrument science has, it couldn't measure or look into the spiritual realm. In the Bible it says Draw near to me (God) and I will draw near to you. If you take that verse, and put it into action, you'll see God for who he really is. It's your choice, man and there inventions will fail, God won't.
If You Believe, no evidence is necessary.
If you don't believe, no evidence is enough.
I say that because as a believer, and many more like me, we don't rely on evidence for our faith, we are the evidence. We are the ones who came from nothing and turn into someone important, we are the ones who have hope and the power to make a change even when we are put down.
We all judge, which is obviously wrong. Until you walked in somebody else's shoes but until then, love one another, like our Lord commanded us.
Non-believers have the evidences before them, nothing came by accident, they know this, deep inside you know. Taking heed to facts and theories isn't always correct especially if you didn't witness it in person. God created all, and all of his creation has a purpose. We were designed, intelligently.

1 Corinthians 2:14
But people who aren't spiritual can't receive these truths from God's Spirit. It all sounds foolish to them and they can't understand it, for only those who are spiritual can understand what the Spirit means.

Acknowledge God, Repent, and Be Blessed.

Ok I listened and I'm a former atheist and I'll tell you why you should believe in God. He is always by your side. You can call upon him wen ever you want. I know it's easy to blame God when bad things happen to us but this is a fallen, temporary world. The Bible said how things would get in world prior to his return and it's only going to get worse. But the bubble is going to pop soon. I know you're probably skeptical of what I'm saying just call on him when you need him most and he'll deliver.

There is a higher power in the spiritual realm. The God portrayed by mainstream Christians is a vengeful, angry god set on sending everyone besides those who believed in his son to hell. Christians have to decide either God is pure love or just an, old angry guy. He cannot be both. This is where confusion comes in trying to understanding the God portrayed by Christians. Another thing, either God is supreme above all laws or a lesser God operating under a cosmic law that he has to follow too. If he is a supreme God, he can forgive the worst of sinners. He shouldn't have to operate under a cosmic law of reward or punishment.

God is not a person. People believe God is a person, that is why they get angry at him. God is everything that exist. You see God all around you. God is the air that you breathe, God is the the birds, the trees, the earth you walk on, God is in people that you see. Long time ago people personalized God, because it was hard to comprehend how God can be everything that surround you, or that God does not have a body. People created God in their own image basically for control over others.

Breaks my heart on the perception of God and Jesus. They are both about love.. and free choice which is also an act of Love. Humans have tainted and misconstrued the truth.. God hates sin.. Not the people who sin.. There is a difference..
