Why I don't like the Xbox One X controller for Fighting Games

Quarter circles are odd on this controller. Very often it will go from down to forward skipping the down forward input. This is very often a problem with most anime and 2D fighting games. Not having the ability to do reliable qcf motions is very unfortunate as this controller is very good at half circles. It's crazy good at doing half circles, but can't manage very consistent qcf motions. I have done some research and tried blowing out the dpad with canned air and lifting it up to see if it'd help it get that down forward a bit better but that didn't really help it. I also used my friend's xbox one x aqua shift version and it had the same issue. I can't really recommend this controller for fighting games but for other games it's very very good.

Thank you for this vid man I thought I was crazy. I play fighting games rather competitively on ps4 but when the ps5 was scarce I bought an Xbox series s and picked up the SF6 open beta today, and have been going insane all day because dps and especially supers are only coming out half the time at best

hey. the dpad has had metal click switches from what ive seen in teardown. sliding your thumb along the outer part is likely to press, let go, wait, then press the other direction. keeping your thumb in the center and rotating should be faster for less thumb movement once you get used to it. this video actually made me realize this controllers dpad is actually great for fighting games

Playing the SF6 Demo I noticed this quarter circle problem, I barely play fighting games and thought maybe it was my fault but I see there is plenty of people suffering with the same input.

damn man… maybe that’s why trying to learn fighting games has been so frustrating for me 🙃🙃 im no pro with motion inputs but sometimes i could swear they’re just not coming out

I switched to an 8bit do and its been amazing! The dpad is perfect and the buttons feel great except the Lb and Rb are tiny. Im going to buy a hori fighting commander to compare the two for SF6

I have this same controller and coincidentally I also play Baiken but I don't suffer from this issue, maybe I just got used to using the controller so it isn't a problem for me, It does sometimes happen but I feel like I don't drop the input enough for it to really bother me.

This is exact same issue im having i play mortal kombat x and i cant do my moves. I cant do my instant airs and my hands cramp up trying. Like i do up down back forward 4 and its so hard. I need the regular d pad but they dont sell them anymore. I just got this controller for 60

The only fix I could find to this issue is to switch how I do my inputs. When I had a DS3 I did them the same way you do sliding my finger basically, I started just leaving my thumb parked in the middle of the dpad and rocking the pad around where I want it to go. Completely solved my problem, I have a really hard time using controllers if I keep taking my thumb off the dpad anyway.

I just notice it's sometimes delayed in using the xbox series x controller that's built with the same dpad

came across this video because I need a controller with a good dpad for this capcom collection. What do you use to play fighting games?

A lot of people online are saying this is the best controller for fighting games. Just looking at the D-ad I can tell it would be jank. Need a traditional 4 way so you can feel pressing down and forward together for a diagonal motion.

I just made the mistake of buying a cheap xbone to play killer instinct and god damn the xbone controller is trash. I can barely get any QC moves out. Its mechanical too so clicky.
I regret it already and my thumb already hurts only after an hour of playing. Its like KI on the N64, give you a blister playing it.

I need a fighting controller for xbox if you have any actual decent suggestions, would be helpful.

I have same problem ! It makes me NUTS. Down-Foward input is missing 80% time on my new controller.
