Opening the Oil Filler Cap and taking out the Dip Stick would be good to release any pressure inside the engine to give it a nice quick and better drainage. You should also use a Torque Wrench to tighten the sump plug. If replacing the old sump plug, make sure to clean it incase it has a magnetic end to catch deposits. You should also fill up the oil filter to the top with clean oil before fitting.

Also, you have to remove the oil cap from the top of the engine, so that the oil can drain much better and faster from the oil pan.

you should fill the oil filter with oil before you re-attach it to the engine, so on the initial status the engine is full lubricated straight away
