Steve Martin, Stand Up Comedy 1984 (HD)

Select 1080 HD. This has been so popular I've now put it up in HD, 12528kbps. (My earlier upload was less than 4,000kbps). Steve's full performance at the Universal Ampitheatre from September 28 1979 from the Steve Martin 3-dvd box set "The Television Stuff." Although the DVD source is clearly videotape, it's not too bad and anyway it's the best quality available. Because this live performance was preceded by a studio based sketch it starts abruptly, but it's complete.
As the DVD's source is clearly videotape, the last thing anyone needs is a weak upload of vintage material, so I took a 1080 HD rip of the standard definition DVD and the best thing about that is YouTube allocates better sound to HD uploads. I hope you enjoy this innovative and inspiring comedy stand up.

This concert was filmed in ‘79 at the Amptitheater. It was never shown in it’s entirety til ‘84. Classic Steve Martin. This is the Steve i like. The Wild and Crazy guy persona is iconic. The suit, the arrow through the head, happy feet etc. great stuff. Steve turned stand-up comedy inside out. He mocked it, played with it. He taught audiences and younger comics: it’s ok if u don’t fit Pryor, Carlin, Brenner, or Klein’s style. U can still be funny doing YOUR thing.

"I do not know if my act holds up these many years later. It is not for me to decide or even think about. Sometimes I hear or see a piece of the old show, and it sounds funny; sometimes I don’t get it and can’t figure out what all the fuss was about." -Steve Martin

Absolutely nuts at that time. We’d never seen anything like him.

The guy is the real deal, he is a comedic giant and can absolutely shred a banjo to pieces. What an absolute legend of a man.

I don't ever remember a crowd going that crazy at the beginning of a stand up. I've watched many from back in the 70's to 80's this man is a legend. It was a great time to be alive

25:57 Dude that comedic timing though. Steve has such a control over his material. The way he changes characters, posture, tone of voice in milliseconds is masterful.

I always heard steve was truly one of the goats of stand up. I never seen him live, but incredible. Loved all his movies as an 80s kid. Legend.

I’m just happy he took a different path than Robin Williams. Their comedies are somewhat similar high energy absurdism. But I think Steve seems happy with his music

Society needs comedy like this again..people seem to have forgot how to laugh at silliness..this country seems to have lost its sense of humor amongst other things..thanks Steve for the forever laughs

He’s an amazing artist. Not to mention, a phenomenal musician.

36:07 this had me dying. The way he responded to the random heckle was so natural, you’d think it was part of his act.

Forty-one years ago and still as much joyful, silly, absurdist fun as it ever was. I LOVE this guy! So many good memories of listening to his comedy albums with friends and laughing so hard we cried. <3 And let's not forget Cruel Shoes!
Steve Forever!! :-D
