In 1974, Turkish troops invaded the Mediterranean island after Greece staged a brief coup five days earlier. Turkish Cypriots in the North, view today's anniversary as a liberation from the Greek-speaking majority. Greek Cypriots in the south view the date as a catastrophe that led to mass displacement.

Example of One-sided Journalism

1. Why are you interviewing someone living in Athens, Greece, instead of someone living in Cyprus or a Cypriot?

2. Why are you not explaining the primary purpose of Turkey's Peace Operation in Cyprus?

3. Is your preference to hear the Cypriot perspective from a Greek person due to your affinity with or fear of Greece?

4. Why are you not addressing the political structure of Cyprus or the issues caused by the coup in 1974?

5. Why are you not discussing the Annan Plan and the last negotiations in 2017?

6. Even though you are a public institution affiliated with Germany and funded by German taxpayers, do you use German discipline and ethics in your videos solely for your own interests?

Let's not forget that in 2004, the Greeks said no to the reunification of the island and were rewarded with EU membership. The Turks said yes, they are not members of the EU.

This is a great example of one-sided journalism. The issue is a conflict; therefore, both sides should be given the opportunity to deliver their messages. This is not about Erdogan or his policies; using his negative image to convey the issues about the topic is not helpful at all. I cannot see any coverage of the Annan Plan, referendum, or crimes against Turks before and during the coup in Cyprus. As a taxpayer I am just diasappointed.

Greeks commemorate fallen EOKA terrorists and talk about reunifications of Cyprus. That is weird.

Also you can ask the old Turkish people living in the island, what they have witnessed before Turkish operation?

I am turkish cypriot my grandparents stayed in the British camps also protected by United Nations for 6 months. Episkopi also known as PIskobu .Their was violence against turkish cypriots rapes and genocide so they had to flee to the North. Many Greek and Turkish cypriots were displaced but we have peace and we are gratefull for Turkey saving us. Look at Gaza now thats how we would have been if Turkey didnt save us

Let's make one thing clear. Cyprus was not invaded for the sake of land grabbing. Cyprus was an artificially created country. The treaty that created Cyprus designated signatory countries TÜRKİYE, UK, and Greece as guarantors of the country's independence. Within a year the Greeks violated the constitution that provided specific rights to the Turkish population and thus began the road to the goal of unification with Greece by cleansing the Turks. Türkiye used her right as a guarantor and intervened after the other guarantors refused. The Greeks never intended to recognize and honor the treaty and the constitution that created CYPRUS. After 50 years they still don't.

Such double standard how Erdogan always said Armenia needs to follow international laws for Karabakh but Turkey is allowed to occupy Cyprus and Syria…

Please note that it was the Greek side who did the coup to annex the island to Greece, it was the Greek side who rejected Annan's peace plan in 2004 and rewarded by EU membership while border issue remains unresolved. All Turkey did was to ensure the security of the Turkish people who have been iving in the island for centuries.

For the longest time i thought Turkey's intervention was bad until i learned that the Greek junta (fascists) took over by violent means and then planned to expell the Cypriot Turks and annex the whole island. In that case Turkey was justified in its action.

"Around 150, 000 people (amounting to more than one-quarter of the total population of Cyprus, and to one-third of its Greek Cypriot population) were displaced from the northern part of the island, where Greek Cypriots had constituted 80% of the population."

Cyprus is GREEK but fascist Turkey couldn't and still can't accept reality and facts.

Lets make it clear. Turkey invaded 2 times even though democracy had been restored. So it was just an excuse

As a Turkish Cypriot, thanks to Türkiye for saving our lives. Enosis, EOKA wasn't acceptable.
We don't want to live as a second-class citizen.
Turkish army didn't only bring peace to the north but also to South.

No mention by anyone how EOKA started killing Turkish Cypriot civilians for no reason

Greek junta, ( military government ) organises a coup in the island, Greek paramilitary ( EOKA ) tries to pull a Srebrenica, Greek leader Makarios seeks Russian alliance, but Turks are still the bad guys here. No I don't buy this.

This isn't even the first island Greek civilians arranged pogroms against Turkish minority. This is a recurring pattern since early 19th. century.

Sorry, there won't be a unification as long as you don't stop portraying Turks as barbarian and yourself as the damsel in distress.
