i think the only reason ppl think the octolings were hypnotized is
1: callie and her shades
2: the weird phrasing of the callamari inkantation “freeing their souls”

They aren't hypnotized. The octarian society is just EXTREMELY corrupted and diplomatic. Infact, with the final boss stage in splatoon 2 looking like an actual concert stage, it's highly inferred that the octarian citizens simply think it's a concert. A show. Infact, Octo Samurai is a big fan of Callie, and probably has no idea she's hypnotized and simply thinks she's collaborating with Octavio.

I think the Octarians closest to knowing the truth about Callie are the ones we fight, aka the soldiers of Octavio's army. However, I feel theres still some secrecy. Like maybe they don't know she's hypnotized either but knows that the final boss battle isn't just a concert.

I don't know why the calamari inkantation has the effect it does, but the lyrics may have something to dk with it. Maybe the lyrics say something about unity and togetherness. Causing not only the octolings in the octarian army to have a realization, but also urge the octolings that are normal citizens to try and see what's out there Instead of staying divided (and I feel like they know of the inklings, considering callie is one and she was clearly pretty popular during her time in the octarian society in splatoon 2. So it probably isn't a whole "we didn't even know you existed" like how inkling society just thinks octolings are inklings with really weird hair styles)

Oh so only the hypnoshades that Callie has hypnotizes, not the octo shades… makes sense because of the shades you get in octo expansion from Iso Padre! I think they were replicas though…












I wish they added playable sanitized or fuzzy octos t-t
