Swarm control for bees
Показать описание
Meet Ariel! The only chicken I've ever named, that's only because my sister named her. Obviously one of my favorites, she stayed in my bedroom for the first two months of her life. So she's very custom being hand fed and will hop on my shoulders when I work in the chicken run...and has been known to poop on me. I'm assuming that's their way of expressing affection.
During our rescues the honeycomb doesn't always come out in nice, beautiful clean sheets, ultimately quite a bit of it gets scrapped otherwise we have a bunch of Frankenstein frames. The choice is to spend a bunch of time making a Picasso sheet of honeycomb or make sure another hive doesn't get slaughtered. We chose the latter. I've been publicly flamed for not rescuing all of the comb, and quite honestly until you've witnessed as many murdered hives as I have, anyone who actually cares about bees would shift their priorities.
With that said, We do our damn best to make sure nothing goes wasted. And pro tip for you beekeepers who have beehives in your backyard, it's easy to get this massive monster that can get intimidating and daunting to manage. So bite the bullet, pull off some brood (I usually do 25-50% for our clients), especially boys (also good preventative mite control), to help curve the size of the colony. Which also helps delay swarming for those attached to their expensive queenie 🤣
