Is The New 2024 Porsche Cayenne Worth The Extra Money vs Pre Refresh?

The 2024 Porsche Cayenne received a significant upgrades for its mid cycle refresh, making upgrades to engine, exterior, and interior. But with all that came a big price jump, so is it worth to buy over a pre-refresh model?

The current generation of the Porsche Cayenne was released a couple years ago and is a wonderful platform. It so good that its used for much more expensive cars like the Bentley Bentayga. So just because a refreshed model was released, does that make the pre-refresh model junk? There seems to be a notion that once the refresh comes out, the older car is immediately obsolete.

I think that couldn’t be any farther from the true. The pre-refresh Cayenne is a wonderful car that the refresh built off of. Now the magic question is, with all the fancy changes Porsche gave the refresh Cayenne, is it worth the extra price to upgrade or save some money and get the pre-refresh car?

thank you so much for. this detailed review. Great job. I'm in the market for a CPO or new Cayanne so I recently test drove both 2023 base and 2024 base and noticed the 2023 base was a bit sluggish and jitterish in the lower gear shifts. Wife also noticed this as a passenger. The 2024 removes that with the bit more lower end torque and transmission tunning. So it felt more composed and more comfortable. Agreed the interior on the 2023 is frankly better. Porsche cheapened on materials in my view in 2024. And you really don't get much more center console space moving the shifter up. So to me it was a waste. But the screens are much better. I was cross shopping 2023 CPO vs 2024 CPO/new and because of the test drives i'm focused only on 2024 now. Just waiting to find the "one" (Algarve blue) at the right price. Thanks

Great comparison. I have the base 2023 and am happy with it for the following reasons: The exterior and interior design of 2023 are much better and keeps the heritage look of what porsche is, the new look especially the interior....huuuh dont feel like a porsche anymore. The PASM is not important for me as i am not a sport guy on tracks.

My soon upgrade will be the Sport Exhaust 🎉

Dude, you are one of the more thorough reviewers, I just don't have time to do it myself. I am in the market for a 23 or 24, leaning on 24 for the self driving and safety features

Both look great. Little different in the front facia but both good. Different engines but great overall the both of them. Neither is better or worse than the other. I like both.

The Cayenne got pricy lol. Back in 2021, my dad’s friend got a well-equipped Cayenne for $89k (barely more money than a fully loaded X5 of the time and back then the X5 was missing features due to shortages), today, that same Cayenne would probs be around $110k. If I was shopping in the segment today, I would choose a BMW X5 as I feel like Porsche didn’t improve the Cayenne much for the 2024 refresh where as BMW made more substantial improvements to the X5 for their 2024 refresh. A new X5 40i M Sport with all the options today would be about the same price as my dad’s friend’s Cayenne and performance wise the 2 are pretty much identical. Up until recently, I’ve felt like the Cayenne was a better choice than the X5 for a few thousand dollars more (although both are incredible), however given the recent improvements made to the X5, and the substantial price hikes the Cayenne has received, I would choose the X5 over the Cayenne today. Both are amazing cars for sure however!

My wife has a new 2024 Cayenne. Algarve blue with leather mohave tan interior. Beautiful. The combination of PASM and beefier tires provides tight handling without a harsh ride. She uses Sport mode most of the time.

I have a 23 turbo GT. ‘23 is so much better. The interior of the ‘24 is so cheap. It does not feel like a sports vehicle, feels like a minivan. They actually have dash buttons that you have to push multiple times and scroll through options like a 1980s dashboard. I’m so glad I bought the 23. The new dashboard design is a giant pain in the ass compared to the old design, which had all the same features but easier to access. There are a lot of corners cut on the 24 interior, and it looks like it and feels like it. Looking over the bonnet of the car it looks like a Dodge pick up truck. All of the grace of the lines were ruined with the unnecessary ugly edges they added.

The digitalisation of the cluster and mid console is to flat, they could be more creative with the use of materials, window buttons, instead of using black or gloss black for everything. That's so cheap, Porsche is to me now just a very expensive Audi.
