To me he knocks spots off just about all his contemporaries. Brahms didn't like him, probably because of jealousy. He couldn't write, tiptoe, hobgoblin music like this. There is so much more to Tchaikovsky than 1812 overture, piano concerto 1 and Romeo and Juliet.

I agree with you, but it is actually played in the ballet. Everyone can see it, just watch the Kirov Ballet version (watch?v=9rJoB7y6Ncs) starting at 0:24:00

I have NEVER seen this piece played during an actual ballet performance of the Swan Lake. This is so pitiful.
