Okay I don’t feel sorry for her but I do feel… I don’t know… like sad? for her? Like how sad that she’s so catastrophically in her own way. But she is and she somehow expects everyone else to fix it for her. What a viscious cycle 😞

I love that the Frank character is basically disassociating every time things get uncomfortable, not because that’s great coping behaviour but that it’s so relatable

I absolutely hate to say it but this is one of those situations where if the roles were reversed no one would be laughing off what Barb did. If your 60+ year old narcissistic dad slapped the ass of your girlfriend who’s half his age there’s be no line about “loving drunk dad” I hope Greg has a conversation with Jen about it actually really not being funny.

Jennifer's reaction to how the nickname Gregor came about shows she's still got a lot more healing to do... And can only bond with her mother when she's willing to be toxic along with Barb

this really highlights what john meant by frank never doing anything to help them. he doesn’t take sides, he jus avoids the situation. it’s hard to watch. ahhh, i love this series!

The way barb smacking greg is overlooked by both jen and barb is sooo telling not even an apology greg is great but hes defo more passive and avoids conflict

"I try to be nice and loving but I always end up making everyone mad" rings so when you're neurodivergent and I was SO ready to empathize with Barb on a human level but then she went "I don't deserve it" "They've been brainwashed" "I didn't raise them that way" and all the empathy evaporated immediately

the way barb is pressing how tough a newborn is and that jen will need her help makes me feel like early motherhood was a lonely and alienating experience for barb

I wish that Jennifer would defend Shawna when barb trashes her behind her back. Doesn’t even call her by her name, just says “Jonathan’s wife”.

I’m desperate for Frank to snap and shut her down!!!! Years of built up repressed emotions and thoughts need to volcano out of this man for my viewing pleasure please xxxx

"Johnathan's wife" the fact that Barb even refuses to call Shawna by name really shows how much she dislikes Shawna to the point of associating her as a thing of John's rather than her own person.
It's one thing if she didn't know what Shawna's name was but ... HER AND JOHN ARE MARRIED AND HAVE 2 KIDS. BARB KNOWS THIS.

Also, if Jen and Greg want ANY parental help they are more likely to ask for Katie than Babr any day. She'll *actually* help them instead of taking control of the home like Barb would. She'd provide any advice when ASKED and *not* criticize Jen over everything she's doing (like what happened on babysitting night). Seriously Barb would be a nightmare to have during recovery!

my heart breaks for jen, she’s trying so hard to maintain a relationship with barb by clinging to positive memories but even those get ruined by barb’s inability to hear anything negative about herself!!!

6:12 i think the saddest thing is that barb is right in that they will need help. they will. but she creates such destruction everywhere she goes that it might come down to them just wanting no help as opposed to her help.

i love that we can tell greg's getting stressed by how he starts getting fixated on details and going on little tangents, like during the boy names conversation... you're such a good writer!!

You know, everyone compliments your story-telling and your acting, and of course they’re right. But I also want to point out your mad editing skills that make your stories flow so well and feel like natural conversations. You are amazingly multitalented!

Barb not knowing how she raised “selfish” children while being extremely selfish

One of the things I like about the portrayal of Jen's relationship with her mother Vs. Jon's, is that because Jen is so fiery normally her mother doesn't take it seriously when she gets frustrated and yells at her, , but because Jon is usually calm, as soon as he gets at all heated Barb interprets it as a severe attack.

Oooh…..let’s bring Greg’s mom to stay after baby and watch Barb’s antics😂

Oh wow, great edition! I love the pause of reflection that Jen took when barb said "remember how Jonathan's wife treated me?". She remembered but I could tell she also realized it felt familiar to whats happening now to her. There's gonna be some processing on that line for Jen. I love this story so much. Thank you Shawna for sharing it and acting it out for us!!

i like that you include moments explaining barb's side of things. not because it excuses her behavior but that it humanizes her. i think when people hurt us theres this idea that theyre cackling and plotting every nasty thing they do but in reality, a lot of it is just a deeply unhappy individual that cant face the fact that they are capable of mistakes.
youve done a great job showing how barb's insecurities about not being needed/wanted/loved are a main instigator in her behavior without making it seem like youre trying to excuse how she's acting. i do believe barb loves her family very much and i also believe she cant see (or maybe refuses to see) how her "helping" is doing more harm than good

Shawna, can I just say I love the format of releasing the short clips day by day and then releasing the whole video a decent chunk into the story. Builds anticipation and keeps us fed ❤
