I feel that modern doctors cannot compete with people who have studied nutrition. Especially the way you do, like a detective. Excellent easy to understand explanations.

Dont say that Tom, that you are just a guy on the internet and not a Doc, Docs learn stuff during their med school but not many keep unlearning and relearning as you do! Thank you. You are the single biggest source for biochemistry on the internet for me.

...sure, Thomas DeLauer is “just some guy on the Internet not a Doctor”, however, this guy is helping so many people to live a strong and healthy lifestyle.

Since I started practicing keto in april 2020, I've lost 41 pounds. I always take potassium and magnesium supplements, every other day in addition to a daily multivitamin and extra vitamin d3. I don't get cramps, no heart palpitations, and I think the magnesium keeps me regular. I did keto years ago and had all the issues above until I learned about how fast we deplete minerals while on keto. I can always tell when I forgot to take my supplements which does happen in my busy life, starting on top of your supplements makes a world of difference.

When I have leg cramps at night, I have tried magnesium, potassium, and salt. The salt is what works for me. (NaCl)

Cramps were not a problem for me. My issue was heart palpitations and they got really severe. I saw a Dr. after having a third attack. He suggested a potassium deficiency. That didn't sound right to me because it is easy to get plenty of potassium in a regular diet. I did not go back to that Dr. because I moved. Had an extremely severe attack on a walk, so held onto a parked truck to stay standing. Was getting ready to sit when it began to subside. Very scary. Next, I was blessed when I went into a holistic herbal and supplement shop and mentioned it to the lady working there. She said others had found magnesium helped with that. I started adding a magnesium supplement and my problem disappeared. That was 20 years ago; yet, still to this day, if I don't take my magnesium for, I guess around, 5 days or so, the palpitations will let themselves be known. I don't let that go. I don't know how much is my system not processing the magnesium, or it is totally as has been suggested, that it is mineral that has been depleted from the soil in which our food is grown.

This so conveniently uploaded when I'm taking neurophysiology! Magnesium blocks Calcium uptake in the postsynaptic terminaps by blocking NDMA & Non-NDMA receptors!

This is super helpful, thanks! I have recently started taking regular magnesium and I can't believe how much it has affected my health. My blood pressure (and intra-ocular pressure!) has normalized. My life-long generalized anxiety seems to have simply disappeared. Like you mentioned in the video, my shoulders have completely relaxed as well as my neck and back. I just feel calm all of the time. I was worried that my potassium might be low as well, but I don't experience the workout cramps that you mention. I was getting random foot and hamstring cramps at night though, which are going away since taking magnesium for a few weeks. This is amazing! I can't believe that no doctor has told me this.

I’ve been on potassium and magnesium supplementation for the last 4 or 5 years with next to no twitching and night cramping. Like one cramp a year now. I used to get a couple cramps a week and sometimes a couple a night. The twitching used to be so dam bad i thought i’d go nuts. Now an incidental twitch is rare.
Now i take 200 mg of magnesium supplements once every couple weeks. And about 5oz of sports drink a day. I’m 190 pounds, 6’2”. I’m not super active. It doesn’t take a lot of supplements but boy has it improved my quality of life and sleep.

I am watching your videos from France. Thank you so much for that very helpful information. I have been on keto for 3 months now and at the beginning I felt great and all my fibromyalgia symptoms totally diseappered. So the diet seems to work perfectly for that disease. However, I have been feeling some unusual symptoms lately (headaches, tiredness, intense thirst, craping during workout, etc.) but didn't have a clue that it was due to a potassium deficiency. I thought it was a magnesium issue so I kept tkaking magnesium over and over again, but nothing happened. This video enabled me to find out that it is a potassium deficiency. Thanks again! 😘

I just mix potassium and Himalayan salt in water. I also take magnesium supplements at night.. Have not had cramps in months. I drink much more water than I used to also.

Thanks for sharing. I take potassium cloride powder, sodium cloride, sodium bicarbinate, and calicium magnesium done by my own research. There has never been a Dr. that I have gone to ( western medicine) that has or would ever talk about this. I also take vitamin B and iodine with seleneium added to my vitamins; which is another topic.

OMG THANK YOU! Been getting crazy calf cramps in the middle of the night and been trying to figure out how to supplement with more potassium at dinner which ends up keeping me awake. This is incredibly helpful. I thought I was just not cut out for keto long term because this persists.

Last night I had a calf cramp in the night at 2:30AM. I’m on day 4 of keto. This was the first recommended video I saw on YouTube this morning. Excellent coincidence.
