Climate activists superglue themselves to Berlin streets | DW News

Climate protection activists blocked dozens of roads in the German capital Berlin today causing traffic jams on many of the city's busiest streets.
The road blocks were in protest at the German government's climate policies, which the activists say don't go far enough to stop climate change. Some protestors from the Last Generation group glued themselves to road surfaces. The protests lasted about an hour, causing huge snarl-ups in Berlin's traffic -- and the tempers of some motorists to flare.

Protesters like this do not "increase awareness" in a postiive way. They increase cycnicsm and increase entrenchment against their cause, no matter how just and sensible that cause would be.

Why not glue yourself to the government building? To the government's residence? To the MP's homes?

Disruption to the public surely pushes people away from your cause.

What bothers me about blocking the streets is there may be unintended consequences. Someone could be having a heart attack or some other medical emergency and an ambulance couldn't get through. Same thing with a fire.

As a biologist and ecologist; I personally disagree with these means of spreading awareness. As pointed out, the message that is being passed is wrong. Climate activism should not be associated with social unrest. Education is a better mean

Using petroleum based glue and causing vehicles to run longer than they normally would because of sitting in traffic is Great for the environment, ,

Do not Un-glue them. Let them sleep and publicly soil themselves in the place of voluntary confinement. NEVER rescue them!

This is great way to get people to oppose you, no matter what you're protesting. It's just bad tactics, a losing strategy.

If I was in charge I'd set up barriers to detour traffic around them and simply leave them there until they decide they've had enough and chew their arms off to escape.

Road rage is a real thing. This seems like a large and unnecessary risk for those participating. Also, an ambulance, fire or police responding to something is of little use in a gridlock. Do unto others.

What about people in emergencies, or about to give birth. Its so irresponsible and possibly fatal to some that they decide they can block roads. They should get 10 Years in jail to deter this from happening again.

I would support ecology protests if they glue themselves in front of the parliament, not on the streets. Instead, they risk the lives of the drivers and the people in the ambulances: they don't care about ethics or life. I would sign to let them rot in jail.
