Nissan Rogue Sunroof Leaking

When the sunroof on our Nissan Rouge started leaking a friend told me about the drains on it. These drains get clogged and then you have the leaking problem. I was able get mine unclogged by running a piece of wire through them and a few squirts of a spray cleaner (409).
There are also drains on the rear of the Nissan Rogue sunroof but so far I've found that cleaning the front ones does the job for me. From what I've seen online, cleaning the rear ones looks to be a bit more challenging. Let's hope the old Rogue stays dry without having to dig into the rear drains...

You totally saved my day! I had water under the carpets on both sides for over a year, and even Nissan was not able to figure out the problem. I live in Costa Rica, have a Nissan Xtrail 2019. After checking the AC, all seals of doors, cleaned the drainages in front, I found your video and it was exactly the problem! Those exits of the drain behind the whipers dash are in a bad location and the tiny hole exit is so small, pretty much as a toothpick. It took me a while to get it cleaned but now it works, and no more leaks. Thanks!!!

First of all, thank you for this video! For those of you who may have a similar leak like the one on 7:15 in the video (water coming above the tire), your end of the drain tube may be disconnected and could be leaking to your floorboard. We were able to fix this by accessing the end of the plastic drain tube for each side by going to the car's floorboard (underneath the foot mats and getting underneath that - removing the lining hard plastic that was holding it down) and reconnecting the plastic tube to it's hard end. This allowed the water to safely run from to sunroof and down the intended channel which the on at the 7min mark. Thanks again for the video! Saved me a ton on potential repair costs!

I used a piece of weed eater string (plastic) …about a 3’ length as the probe and then used compressed air … done! The string cleared the clog and the air dispersed any left over debris without causing hose to separate/dislodge

Thank you! I'm not that handy, but your explanation was great, and I'm going to give this a try.

I wish I had recorded it. You have one behind the rear tire jack lower left of the jack. On the right side, I had to unsnap the lower inside panel and also removed the rear and right door seals. I removed the rear floorboard basically everything above the spare tire. I pryed that panel away a little without removing it. I placed a piece of wood to hold that panel open enough to get an arm into the rear side and pulled the hose off. It was clogged to hell. Once I cleared it, I poured water down both drain inlets and it worked just fine. I jammed a small screwdriver into the check valve and made a permanent hole so the water coming down flows freely like it is supposed to do. Like I said, I now wish that I had recorded it because I feel Nissan messed up big time.

Very good video, thanks for sharing I clearly understand how to clear the drain of my sunroof. This has been puzzling me for a while. Thank you again.

Sometimes it's not the drain tubes. I just confirmed that my drain tubes are unobstructed. So I pulled away part of the headliner near the driver's side post and poured water from a pitcher onto my roof---forward of the sunroof. In other words, the sunroof was taken out of the equation totally. It was left bone dry. The water I was pouring onto my roof was traveling straight under the windshield. With the headliner pulled away slightly, I could see it stream down the inside of the roof structure, and onto the top of the headliner above the driver's side window. The seal around my windshield has failed. It's a 2010 Pathfinder with 180, 000 miles, with the original windshield. If you've got lots of years and miles on your original windshield, it may be time for a new windshield. I'm going to get mine replaced, and I'll check back and let you know if that fixed my water ingress issue.

Thanks for this video I tried clearing the blockage with a wire, however, I guess i dislodged a seal somewhere and now the water is leaking from the pillar. I have no way to find out where this seal is and how to access it. I would suggest people to be very gentle when using the wire method to clear it. In my opinion, the other option to access and remove the filter under the wiper trims would be more safer.

This is good for the front drains. This is what I did. I removed the hood, wipers and plastic cover under the wipers. I drilled out the check value so it should drain without getting clogged. Moving forward, I will use the weed wacker wire to find the front drain and then insert a straw to blow it out with my compressor. The rear is located next to the spare tire jack. Pull it and blow compressed air in that hose. Save yourself $1500. Just the rear is $850. Quote from Nissan

How can you access the rear drain tubes. I can't see them so it's pretty hopeless

If you have some sockets, needles nose pliers and about 15 minutes. You can take off the plastic at the bottom of the windshield to access the drains themselves and unplug them. There is a stupid plastic insert on both sides that gets clogged. If you pull off the center nipple it will release the water and leave a bigger hole to drain debris

Seems to be a common problem. We have a 2016 rogue we got new to us 2 years ago and ran into this issue on the passenger side that summer. I had cleared it with some weed Wacker trimmer line then. Now back to the same problem 2 years later and the trimmer line doesn't seem to be getting the job done this time.

Is this the same for 2017 Rogues? I just got my new to me Rogue from my stepfather and the day I got it we had a big storm and the ceiling on the inside was soaked as well as cup holders full with water. If it's this issue will it leak inside the car? I've been having to put a tarp on my car and looking online for a new seal. My stepfather said it never ever leaked before that and he finds it hard to believe that the day I got it, it just starts leaking... I was beginning to think it was just my luck...

Thanks for this video I will give it a try. At least now I know it is not a repair that should cost $350+

Better off to take the wiper shroud off and remove the end caps from the drain plugs. Once that is done you can use a Cat5 cable or HDMI cable (without the end) and feed it up from the bottom as it is easier to see. Your Cat 5 cable will come out completely full of sludge then the water will start draining. I would put that on the maintenance schedule for at least every six months to ensure that it does not clog back up. This is def a manufacturers defect that they know about but continue to do nothing about.

For everyone having this issue, are you taking care of the water underneath your carpet? If not, you will have mold.

It costs us over $300 every 2-3 years to have the gutter hose cleared! I am all for a class action suit to recover that cost and possibly false advertising of price! Mold, moisture, fogging windows from the inside! The recall for damp floor causing a fire hazard and sash instrument failure is BS!
