In this video I explain how to fix a clugged up sunroof drain system on a 2014 Nissan Rogue. I believe this method should work on at least 2014-2017 models

Tips appreciated

Great video. My drainage tube was so clogged that the Cat5 cable was not stiff enough to clear it. Kept getting stuck after about one foot. Instead I used a length of bicycle cable housing. It is somewhat thinner than Cat5 and stiffer but still flexible. Worked great. If you're having trouble, try bike cable housing.

If this dont work use a small vacuum hose and apply very light air pressure, listen for a small hiss sound from cowl! Thanks for the video, wire didnt work but gave me vacuum line idea and that solved the problem!

This video is spot on! I used some window spline first and it did not fully fix the problem. So I went the air route as the other
viewer suggested. I used some clear fish tank tubing from Wal-mart and ran it all the way down into the drain. Then, I used
an air compressor with the little "jet nozzle" on the end and blasted some air through the tube. The clog seems to be at the bottom.
Anyway, as the other person said, there was a hiss and and explosion of water and who knows what else behind the wheel under
the car. Immediately I knew it was clear because the air just flowed freely through the tube and out the bottom and you could hear it moving
with no resistance, unlike the first second or two.

CAT5 worked perfectly. Ran a gallon of really hot water through it. Drains quickly now. Will add it to my yearly maintenance. Thanks.

I will try your method tomorrow morning. I just came from the Nissan dealer today and they quoted me $1000.00 to fix that problem. The driver side floor is getting wet in my case. I hope this works! Thank you for posting that knowledge😊

Worked on mine in between rain squalls. I used weed wacker lines, and it seemed to work. Will give it another try and dump some water in the drains when things dry up. Thanks for the video.

There’s two drains in the back of the sunroof pan too. They are not easy to get to.

Thanks. My first thought was a wire from romex. Good to know it is too stiff AND I happen to have a bunch of useless cat5 cable. Excellent and thanks again.

For everyone having this issue, are you taking care of the water underneath your carpet? If not, you will have mold.

After trying this, about 1.5" of cable is stuck in the drain hole. Geez. I'm wanting this to work because my car floor is a puddle. Wish I could take my car apart! Is this the only drain on the car to clear?? I know this is the answer but I also wonder if there's another way water is getting in. My rear passenger floor IS also wet.

Any Nissan 2014 or later has a flapper mechanism in the drain track that obscures the front drain holes which in my situation is usually the passenger side. If it rains really hard & the sunroof channel fills with water if you make a quick stop and the hard sun shielding panel is slid back to expose the solid glass roof, one or both front seat occupants get a bath (extremely startling & dangerous when stopping in traffic!!). If the hard panel is closed, you'll get water slowly saturating the headliner & visor areas.

I've seen the videos on working a length of tubing under various sliding track areas in the roofing channel to try to locate the drain hole. In some cases, pot luck makes this easier said than done, especially while trying to maintain your balance.

I've found that one of the major culprits that cause drain block is pollen from trees that we usually find all over the outside of our cars during the spring. If you slide open the moon/sunroof and use a medium size paint brush & a large plastic cup of soapy water, you can loosen up the pollen & then flush it with clean water you can keep the drain holes from getting clogged up.

I've also found that if the drain holes do clog, if you take a small shot glass sized filled with Mr. Plumber liquid and pour it into the corners of the sunroof drain channels and let it work it's magic, just like a clogged sink drain, shortly afterwards you can pour some water in the roof channel & the water drains quickly. Then just pour enough additional water into the drain channel to ensure it's totally clear of clogs. Easy fix!!

What about the REAR TWO DRAINS? Where do they exit?

I think its better to use a thinner weed whacker or bike cable line as it can break up the accumulated crud instead of mashing it together which can create a worse clog. Usually the the bottom of the tube connects to a plastic nozzle with a narrow exit where things get stuck. You can clean and enlarge the hole.

Thanks for this video I tried clearing the blockage with a wire, however, I guess i dislodged a seal somewhere and now the water is leaking from the pillar. I have no way to find out where this seal is and how to access it. I would suggest people to be very gentle when using the wire method to clear it. In my opinion, the other option to access and remove the filter under the wiper trims would be more safer.
