All of this makes me realise just how much character the Wii had and how much Nintendo cared. I wish the Switch had more cool features like this.

The best part of the whole hold your Wii competition is that the hosts knew they were killing the contestants. Several people called in saying that the contestants would die and needed to go to the hospital, but the hosts didn’t give a shit. They killed that woman for publicity and got off Scott free.

3:20 Fact 6. Finnish army Wii's.
I am from Finland, and did my service bout year ago (II/23), and can indeed confirm there was a Wii. Not just a Wii but we had everything from PS4 to a Sega Mega Drive. (with the original sonic the hedgehog of course.)
This was at 'Santahamina' which is the closest military brigade to Helsinki, the capital. I imagine your mileage in what console you have available at the brigade will vary depending where in Finland you do your service.

But to give this some context, Finland while does have a professional wing of the military, aka full time job soldiers, Finland largely makes use of a conscript army, aka all healthy men between 18-30 have to serve and undergo military training from half to a full year (depending what field you're being trained for). Because of this they have to provide weekend leave and lot of past time opportunities for conscripts, as they're forced to be there by law, not by choice- so they have an obligation to take care of their mental health and not to interfere too heavily in their personal lives and relationships, and providing stress relief of course, to this end they provide amenities at each units break rooms located at their barracks, and bunch of different sports fields/equipment. I don't know if this program extends to the Wii's but if during free time at the brigade you engage in sports activity, like football or the gyms, you can even earn extra holiday leave days.

As for free time, while there were weeks we spent entirely camping in the woods, full time service- often (depending on what field you are being trained for of course) You woke up at 6am and most exercises stopped at 6pm, with 9pm being lights out.
Leaving a some 3 hours to visit the "Sotilaskoti" store to buy snacks, or to engage in any pastime of your choosing. (libraries, sports, TV, games- so on)

Regarding the Sega Mega Drive, I found it silly too, and even took a picture of it. If you want proof of this contact me on Discord as 'farmire'. I sadly didn't take a picture of the Wii or other consoles, but if you're curious about Finnish conscript service, I have a bunch of stories and pictures.

Fun fact the PS3 and the Wii both had the same last game releasing 1 month apart. It was Shakedown Hawaii. The Wii got it July 9th 2020. The PS3 got a month later on August 20th 2020.

17:54 For #46 I think there’s some things worth clarifying.
1. He did not have to pay them 16 million dollars, just 1.6 million.
2. Acording to the guy who got sued he never actually had to pay a cent to Nintendo, with him speculating they used his situation as an example to scare others. His credit score was messed up for a while but aside from that he considers what happened a slap on the wrist

As of July 2024 according to Google Maps, the dog grooming location still has Miis on their logo! Awesome!

Not a Wii fact but related to Fact #22: Getting a StreetPass with someone whose Mii has golden/yellow pants in the 3DS game StreetPass Mii Plaza gives you special benefits in the games. For example, Find Mii gives them a higher level, Ultimate Angler gives you a free gold travel ticket, and Mii Force gives you an extra golden pod the Mii in question calls a "Special Attack" that follows behind you based on your inputs instead of being locked to the formation(akin to Youmu's phantom-half in Touhou 8) which can even stack if you have multiple.

This is especially useful nowadays with NetPass*, now that there are Custom Firmware apps you can download that make Miis of your choice have the color. Even if they are minor benefits, I'm surprised more Miis on there _don't_ have golden pants, in that case, but I guess since the benefits don't apply for yourself if your own Mii has them(they don't even show on your Mii at all), there isn't really that much of an incentive.

*Another fun fact: I've heard playing Mii Plaza by using NetPass colloquially called "NetPlaza", and I call it that myself. I am also on there by the way, my NetPlaza Mii has golden pants too; look for the Mii of Double Dee (from Ed Edd n' Eddy) in the black dress called "BinglesP".

This doesn’t count as the 101st obscure fact, but I still got something to share.

The Internet Channel for the Wii has an integrated Adobe Flash Player for displaying websites that required Flash. So long as the channel was installed on the Wii Menu, homebrewers can inject swf files in WADs and play animations and games as Virtual Console (WiiWare) titles with the right tools.

The homebrew concept of porting flash games to the Wii is a bit obscure as it isn’t seen much throughout YouTube and can only be seen in some parts of the internet, but it’s also quite remarkable too. 😁

Great video! The reason Just Dance stopped releasing on the Wii was because Nintendo stopped making discs for the Wii. Also, Just Dance sold really well on the Wii compared to other platforms. Just Dance sold the best on the Nintendo Switch and the Wii was second place.

22:53. Actually the Wii version of Samba de Amigo allowed for you to use 2 Wii remotes as an control option alongside the standard Wii remote and nun-chuck combo, and it actually makes the movement feel more precise. Also, another cool fact about Samba de Amigo on Wii is that it was the first physically released Wii game to use the Pay & Play feature of Nintendo Wi-Fi connection which basically meant that it was the first physical Wii game to have DLC.

Loving this small rise in Wii youtubers. I kind of want to join in too, but I don't know how to edit videos
