The opening weekend projections for the upcoming DCEU movie Blue Beetle have now come out and it indicates it could end up being the biggest box office flop for a comic book movie in history.

Blue Beetle is an obscure character that very few people would pay money to go watch at the theaters. This is not like the GotG situation because people went to see the MCU, not the GotG specifically. Had the DCEU been successful like the MCU, then sure, Blue Beetle has a chance to be successful.

There's another reason, which I'll explain with a joke:

The reboot announcement was too early. While black Adam may not have met studio expectations it seems to have peaked the most interest with casual movie fans. A character like black Adam is far more obscure than the flash yet the movie was able to out pace the others because it was able to build hype with some fans. Announcing another full pivot the month after Black Adam released and before Shazam 2 came out essentially killed the purpose and interest of all the DC movies through Aquaman 2. While a full reboot would be nice it seems like we aren’t going to get that 100% and it might cause more fruitless projects that people aren’t willing to pay to see.

Sometimes people lose interest in genres and it takes a really good film for them to come back. People use to go see any superhero film now they are being more selective. The studios need to focus on quality and not quantity. We don't need a superhero film in the theaters at all times.
