Explained: Why Was Vinesh Phogat Disqualified From Olympic Final? | India Today Exclusive

In a big blow to India's chances of winning a Gold medal, Vinesh Phogat was disqualified from the women's 50kg wrestling final at the Paris Olympics. The 29-year-old was found ineligible to compete on the second day as she was found 100 gram overweight during the weigh-in on the day of the final.

Despite the best efforts from VInesh Phogat's team on Tuesday night, the wrester missed the weight on Wednesday.

Vinesh will always be known as a world class wrestler. While some kind of conspiracy can not be ruled out our officials are fully to blame. They were caught snoozing and had many weighing machines at their disposal to check accuracy. Since most of these officials have often a poor education they lack a presence of mind. A smart official would have immediately chopped all of Vinesh’s hair and the job would have been done! Vinesh is our hero and no fault of her.
