That Jason Bateman, who plays the lead character Marty Byrde in the show, was originally signed on for a rather different role? The world created by Ozark’s creative team has wowed audiences since being aired in 2017 on Netflix. The show sees Jason Bateman’s character Marty Byrde follow in the footsteps of Breaking Bad’s Walter White and turn to a life of crime in order to support his family financially. However, Bateman had originally been attached to direct the first season of the show. Bateman had to be persuaded to play the character of Byrde by being offered the chance to direct too. Due to scheduling conflicts Bateman only ended up directing the first two episodes in the season but stayed on to play the character of Byrde throughout Ozark’s four seasons on Netflix.
