The reason Why I left the Amish Lifestyle Behind

I grew up in the Middlefield Ohio Amish settlement in an old older Amish church. I left the Amish lifestyle due to their religion. When I compared it to the teachings of the Bible, I found that the Amish culture does not teach or believe what the Bible teaches, and I decided to leave the Amish community. Growing up, I had a lot of questions about our lifestyle, and I thought I'll get answers when I was ready to get baptised. But I was wrong because when the time came, I was told to do what everyone else in the community does and not to question. I started to realize that the Amish members themselves don't understand their religion, and many things in the Bible they take out of context. It was a very confusing time of my life, but after searching and reading for myself, I found the answers to my questions, and I knew I couldn't continue living the Amish life. My family tried their hardest to keep me from leaving, but I am so glad that did.

What a brave and level headed young woman. How could any parent turn their back on such a prize. She didn't leave the faith, she found the faith.

Knowing you since 2008, I always knew there was something different about you. Watching you grow from a lovely amish girl to a beautiful God fearing woman is inspiration. I love you friend ❤

So many people never grasp the difference between a religion and a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. No matter what church or group we become associated with, it remains important to continually check what is being preached and taught against the Bible, God’s Word. If they do not agree, we are to always go with God’s Word as our authority. Thank you for your bravery in rejecting false reaching, even to the point of being disinherited, and thank you for being brave enough to share that in a loving way with all of us. May God continue to guide and strengthen you in this lifelong journey. I pray you will be able and willing to continue to share this journey with us.

I highly respect you. As a former pastor, I was frustrated by the majority of Christians I knew who blindly followed whatever their pastor taught, seldom if ever actually doing what you did, and looking into Scripture to see if that pastor was teaching God's word. Also they were not studying and thinking to see why the ideologies modern society is indoctrinating us with are wrong, according to the Lord. I also respect you because obviously Jesus is more important to you than anything else. Because of your faith in Him, sadly you lost your family.

This took such courage, as you were not only rejecting their false teachings, but also turning from family and a community support system. This is a true and faithful example of Luke 9:61-62.

I grew up in the same area. You are spot on, and your experiences are very similar to mine. It is not always an easy road, but God is always faithful. Stay strong🤎

They (Amish bishops and elders) didn’t have the answers for you because they want their people to be in the dark and just follow what they’re being told. That’s why they don’t want you researching and studying the Bible on your own. They KNOW their lies will be brought out if that happens. Bless you for finding the truth and leaving the cult.

Hello Martha, I have no idea why you popped up in my video feed but decided to watch your video. I've never been Amish, but the fact that you're exposing their false teachings was an instant sub from me. Trusting God & you're bravery from stepping away from it knowing what the people around you might do is so encouraging & special to me even though I haven't been in that situation before. So please, keep doing what you are doing. You are definitely going to be helping others. 💕

I pray with you that God touches your family members' hearts and reveals himself to them and to the rest of their community. May there be a revival in all the Amish communities! God bless you, sister ❤️

You are such a brave, young lady for standing up for your beliefs! I commend you for that. I live in Southern Ohio where there are a lot of Amish people and even had a young Amish couple that lived right across the road from me and the man left the Amish for reason's unknown to me, but the lady is still Amish, dresses Amish and dress her 2 children as Amish. I have spoken to them a few times and always enjoyed talking to them, they were very nice people. But sadly, they bought new property and moved a few miles away. I miss seeing them too! I am a Christian myself and I go to a small, country Baptist church here and there is one lady that has left the Amish that goes to our church too. I have found that many of the younger Amish people leave due to the Amish not teaching the true Word of God and I had always thought that was one thing that they stressed very strongly, but I guess I was wrong. I do respect the Amish; they are a very hard-working group of people. But I do understand people leaving because they want a closer relationship with Jesus. I will be looking for more of your videos and thank you for posting this!

I have read many things about the Amish and could never understand some of their very strict beliefs. I think maybe your parents said some of those horrible things our of fear. It was like they were losing you and wanted to control you by those words. I give you a lot of credit for following your own heart and what the Lord lead you to do. You are now a part of the Lord's family and you will find a lot of courage, encouragement with those who truly love you in Him.

I really enjoyed your video. New subscriber here. I grew up in the Jehovah Witness cult for 34 years of my life. I was baptized at 16. I was not disfellowshiped when I left. I just walked away. I had to move 1500 miles away to break away fully. They will hound you if you don't. As JWS, we were told to only marry within the JW religion. We were told not to have friends outside of our organization, and we mainly work with people who are only JWS. With the limited outside influences, we are forced to associate with our own. If we leave the JWS we too are told Satan has a hold on us. And if we leave, we don't have a community that will be there for us. We are sure to fail!! That is the fear they put into all of us. I have not talked to my mother in 13 years. She has never met her grandson, sadly. Her choice. All of my so called friend who said they love you, I have learned it's ONLY CONDITIONAL LOVE. If that's the god they worship, I want nothing to do with it. I did my own research and found MANY of their teachings is man-made based and definitely not the way Jesus example showed. Thank you for sharing your discovery, and I look forward to seeing more.

Martha, you will be so richly rewarded in paradise one day. You're precious, and an example to many folks. I'm sad about your family ousting you, and hopefully Holy Spirit will convict them about their errors. Meanwhile, stand strong and trust in our Lord. Shalom.

To be a Christian does not mean to join a cult or allow others to dictate how to live your life.
