We've finally arrived at our own genus, Homo! But we aren't talking about human beings yet, there are a number of species in this genus that are now totally extinct, but are important to learn about in order to understand how our species came about. The first two species from Homo that we will look at are Homo habilis and Homo rudolfensis. When did these emerge? What was their morphology? How did they differ from us today? Let's find out!

Probably also worth saying that huge jaw muscles that attach around the skull restrict how large the skull can develop. Moving to foods that require less chewing allows these muscles to reduce in size, and their attachment points to also reduce, enabling the skull to be larger.

I remember going to the Natural History Museum in DC last year, and we went to the place with all the wax sculptures of proto-humans, and I judged them all based on if I could fight them, or if they would be chill to hang out with.

"Homo Habilis is nothing to write home about...."
I guess I'll have to tell my dad to disregard everything I wrote in the birthday card I sent him.

Professor Davecan can you do a video reviewing Dr. Steven Greer's appearance on the PBD podcast?

Hey Dave, I know this isn't the subject of the video, but I have been going over your Tour videos and I wanted to ask what you think of this guy Dr. Hector Zenil and his "8 Fallacies" blog post. He is certainly not a demagogue and his analysis seems fascinating, though it is entirely focused on Cronin's work with algorithms. I am unclear why he would go onto Tour's channel, given Tour's implicit anti-intellectualism. If you have any insight into his work, I would love to hear your view.

i heard some interesting speculation that the increase in brain size was made possible by more efficient heat loss due to our ability to sweat across our entire body.
