Do cheaper metal detectors really work?

Can this Tilswall metal detector that costs $65 really locate coins, silver, lead, gold, rings and other valuables? Do you need to spend hundreds or thousands of dollars to find buried treasures and valuable items?

I own a fancy Nokta but I bought a cheap one for general use and it cost me £23. Let's put it this way, the cheap detector can pick up a tin lid from a small can at 70cm. Pretty good for a 23 quid machine.

Gold rings need to be very close to the coil.. like 5mm to be picked up. Nails and steel you get about 15cm to play with

I just picked up the Gordon from Harbor Freight and it’s going back if they will accept the return. Coil got wet and now it beeps every time you move it. Kinda stopped after drying a bit, but the thing won’t detect my necklace that is a gold and silver mix unless I put it in pinpointer mode. I’ve used harbor freights cheapest detector, and I’ve used the discovery 1100 from Dicks sporting goods. I might keep that one for the kids, even though it can’t be bought online for half the price. Currently waiting for my Nokta Simplex Ultra to be delivered.

I watch a lot of metal detecting vids and the folks with $3500 detectors are digging up aluminum cans...just like the rest of us.
