This is the only video that helps find the right capacitor without reading the old one. The technician replaced the capacitor on a Sunday and charged us 250 dollars. Later on I figured out with wrong capacitor spec because one month later one wire melted. I was not able to find the right capacitor recommended by the manufacturer in any website, manual or customer service. After reading on the compressor I was able to find the right one which is 45, different from the technician replaced 60! Thank you very much

I just landed a great job as an installer and technician at a very professional, privately owned company. In my interview they were concerned that I didn’t have HVAC schooling. I am a professional Subaru technician by trade. Wanted something more diverse in a career. They literally hired me largely based on the fact that I have watched and studied your videos. I have a lot of thanks to give you. So, THANK YOU for helping me get into a better career to support my little three year old daughter!

My AC has been out for 3 years. My landlord has not yet fixed it. This may be the most valuable video I've found in a long time. High's in the 90's coming up next week. Thank you sir!!

Thanks my man. You taught me a very important idea on finding the right type capacitor. Never use higher mfd type. I always thought just a little higher wouldn't hurt. Learned my lesson. Thanks again

This video was amazing, as my capacitor was very rusty and I could only see it was a York with ??+5 MFD. In my heat pump I couldn't see the compressor's MFD rating (looks like the compressor was in some sort of jacket, not sure). After discharging and trying to read the capacitor with my multi-meter it showed 20MFD (that seemed too low, I expected 35+). I then decided to give up and just put back the old capacitor which was still working, ... wait for the face palm moment ... I struggled a bit trying to get the screw that holds the capacitor in and what do I see ... a 50 + 5 MFD in sharpie! Appreciate the video you made and whomever had the comment about inking the capacitor rating with a sharpie, whoever did that for my HVAC system absolutely saved me.

Thank you so much! The guy that serviced my ac decided to replace my capacitor because it may fail soon. He didn’t have the exact replacement so he installed one of a slightly higher rating and left with my original. Now I want to have a spare but know way of knowing what was the original. Thanks to this video I am now able to buy one with the exact ratings

Thanks for stressing that the mfd rating is important and the voltage of a new run capacitor can be the stated voltage or a higher voltage. As a preference I always replaced with the exact mfd rating but always with a 440 voltage rating. With contactor replacing, I always replaced with a 40 amp. although the factory installed a 30 amp. Thanks for the excellent accurate videos.

20k ohm resistor is also the same rating as a screwdriver btw

Thanks again. I've struggled with people putting in wrong caps mfd in units and customer tells me that fan was replaced a year or two ago, only to find out that they have gone to Higher mfd and caused the start winding to get damaged over time. After my first experience the customer texted me from time to time that the unit fan is still doing good after five years. Ty again for your videos and advice.

Your channel just popped up so I took a peek. Thanks for the info! As a guy who likes to fix stuff myself whenever possible, (worked on my elec furnace and my RV ac & I have basically no knowledge on subject) your channel resource might be of great help one day soon!
