That news reader really did a fantastic job. You’d think it was routine news, his voice was so calm. The following presenter was great too

Still difficult to accept she's gone. May she rest in light.

What some may realize looking back at HM Queen Elizabeth II's 70 years on the throne is that she oversaw all of the events from the post-war recovery, England winning the World Cup for its one and only time, the Cold War, the rise of rock 'n roll, the ushering in of television and the internet, phones going from being attached to the wall to being carried in your pocket, and eventually the advent of social media. I don't know if 25-year-old Princess Elizabeth would have anticipated ruling over her empire and later commonwealth for seven decades, but that was what Elizabeth did. Best of luck to Charles III in filling his mother's shoes.

Like millions of people around the world, I have been mourning the passing of Her Royal Majesty for the past week, with many tears and fond memories and watching documentaries and tributes to her long life and service to her people. Many many will remember where they were and how it came to be known that she had passed. Honestly, whatever may be whispered about the family's mixed past, Queen Elizabeth was (and still is) an exceptionally respectable human who took a vow of service at a young age and went on to fulfill her oath right up to the last days of her life. Rest in Peace Ma'am and God Save The Queen.

Queen Elizabeth II is just going to be one of those historical figures that are going to live long through history. God save the Queen.

I'm from across the pond in the US. A coworker told me the news in the middle of our work shift. HM Queen Elizabeth was a steady, comforting figure in a world that's felt scary and out of control the last few years.

This is emotional, even here in the USA. Rest well Queen Elizabeth II.

I was listening to Sara Cox's show on that day, still can't quite believe the overwhelming feeling of shock & sadness I felt when the announcement was made.

I believe this news flash was simultaneously broadcast on all domestic BBC Radio services, and possibly also on the English language feed of the BBC World Service.

I listened to this broadcast and experienced the same bit of shock the newscasters did: it was hard to believe she'd passed and the fumbling over having to start calling him King Charles or saying His Majesty. Long may he reign.

When Heart announced it, they were playing the new OneRepublic top gun song and during the second chorus, they turned the music down and the presenter said “this is Heart, it’s 6:36, now, for a special news report”

This is one of the events you remember even in 20 years where you were and what you have done as you heard this.

I had news streaming on my phone (on YouTube) when news came through. Ran out to tell work colleagues/regulars to put TV on quick. Still had to wait 2 minutes before the BBC interrupted normal programming. Incidentally, I was on Sky News live.
