I was in Wales when I heard that Her Majesty died. It didn't help the fact that I was about to lose my grandmother to lung cancer a month and a half later after the Queen’s death. Wales was the last place that I saw her and I dreaded leaving knowing I'll never see her again. But I believe that when the Queen and my grandmother first heard the news of their cancers, they both had said, "Well, I've had a good life." And we all agreed with them. Viewing nearly a year later. Still extremely emotional.
I was in the Royal Albert Hall for a Beethoven concert that evening. Was hearing news all afternoon but realised later I was in denial. Made official by the BBC I could deny no more.
Thankful that news we dreaded was experienced with my partner and in my favourite of all places.
Louis v Beethoven now cancelled we went into the RAH arena for just Nimrod and GSTQ.
In a weird personal way, it was perfect: my worst of all news, in my favourite of all places.

There’s nothing more heart-pounding than when you’re just watching TV as you normally would, and then the channel abruptly cuts to the News to announce something like this…
