I like how Guillermo Del Toro began his acceptance speech by saying "Animation is cinema. Animation is not a genre." Even he is fed up with this stuff.

The 8 people who still watch Oscars surely agree

“Animation? You mean that baby stuff for babies? Anyway, here’s a 30 minute musical number.”

Never forget that Boss Baby got nominated instead of A Silent Voice for best animated feature

“We here at the Academy want to show you all just how much we deeply admire and respect all the workers in the filmmaking industry. That’s why we’ve decided to cut out every non-actor and director based award from our broadcast. Gotta make room for those wacky Kimmel bits, am I right?”

No one watches the Oscars so we have no way of knowing how accurate this is ☹️

I think Hollywood doesn’t respect animation because not only do they know nothing about it, but their faces can’t be seen in what is supposed to be an invisible art.

This aged well. Jimmy Kimmel literally said “please raise your hand if you let your kid fill out this part of the ballot”

I feel it would be more accurate if the nominees were:

Two movies from Disney, a movie from one of Disney's rivals, a creepy stop motion movie we let a beloved director make, and an artsy foreign film that we didn't actually watch and only nominated to tick a box.

"One creepy stop motion movie we let a beloved director make"

Isle of Dogs slapped though

Waiting for the Oscars to add a ‘best 43 second YouTube Oscars parody skit’ award so that MCT can get the recognition he deserves

It's so accurate it hurts. The nominees can include actual adult animated films, yet the voters don't bother to watch it, vote for the latest Disney film and let some random actors talk about how much their children love these movies.

"Kids movies have always done a great job at appealing to the kid inside all of us. We just feel SO YOUNG watching these kids movies. If I had a kid, I'd be taking him right now to see a Kids movie as good as the five kids movie nominees we have today. Without further ado, the Academy Award goes to Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The best kids movie." (with condescension)

I love that The Rock and Guillermo Del Toro both came in with not just an "animation is for everyone" but each a genuine, passionate speech about the beauty of the medium, and the talented people in it. Even a little opposition from the both, you could tell they were fed up with how things have been.

“This year’s animated movies tackled themes and topics such as generational trauma, imperialism, panic attacks, anxiety, grief, fear of death, and the meaning of life. So you know, kids movies.”

I just want an Oscar speech like that and they proceed to give the award to some horrifying adult animated film

"Four Pixar movies and one creepy stop motion we let a beloved director make"

I'm haunted by how consistent this is

I want Guirrelmo to win just so he can emphasize that animation is not just for kids in his speech

Gotta love when an Oscars judge openly said he didn't watch one of the nominees The Tale of the Princess Kaguya, because he only watches what his children watches and not "that Chinese shit". Or something to that effect... (Edit: apparently a voter? Perhaps I should have researched this a bit more first before I commented, but I was too lazy haha. In any case, it went essentially like this. Oh, another edit - if you go down below in the comments you will find the quote I was explicitly refering to, thank you Nix alot !)
