How to use Arduino Pro Mini to create inexpensive wearable displays

I am using 32 AWG magnet wire to make inexpensive LED strings.  I use a match to burn the insulation off the end and pinch and sand with 400 grit body paper before soldering.  I have found that if you don't burn the insulation first, you sometimes get solder joints that look good but the wire has not taken the solder - difficult to troubleshoot!

what gauge magnet wire are you using?
I'm new at this. I'm looking for cheap wire that might work well over moderate distance of around 10 feet (connecting sensors to arduinos/raspberry pis).
