I am so glad you posted this. I thought I was going crazy when my cicadas didn't sound like my friend's cicadas. Now I know that I have been visited by M. cassinii whereas he has been receiving the aural gifts of M. septendecim. Love all their wild sounds.

Thank you for sharing. I was wondering why I heard several distinct sounds in my neighborhood and this video answered that!

I really like the ones that sound like really weird, almost creepy howling, I was catching a lot of cicadas last month and about one out of every hundred made that sound, it's very interesting

My entire neighborhood sounds like the howling sound right now. Or some version of it. It is so EERIE! At first I thought it was some construction going on. But I hear the regular cicada sound and this other hollowing howling sound that seems to be surrounding us everywhere I go. My entire front of the house has been covered in the XIX brood this week as well as the trees. So makes sense.

2024 here; I currently have a periodical cicada sitting on my hand. It was sitting beneath the side of my car, so I let it walk onto my hand and now it's just chilling there. It's cute!

The Septendecim sound like something much larger and more dangerous. The first time I heard it, I thought it was some kind of predator hunting one of my cats

They are thick at my house in the hedges and trees. I love them. Sounds like summer. Can't wait to take them along fishing with me.

We don't have them where I live, so I was very curious to hear what they sound like. I had no idea that different species have different songs, but it makes sense when you think of birds. Thank you for sharing!
