I don't know if I would have liked Wayne if I had met him, but I have heard from many he could be very nice. Mark Rydell the liberal director said that of all the actors or acresses he had worked with, Wayne was the nicest. I also think that he mellowed much in the 70's. Also he poked fun at himself during some not so flattering Harvard Award.
