I picked up *Roger Moore* in my taxi once. Because it was night, and he sat in the back, I didn't realize who he was. I was starting to become a professional singer, and we spent the whole half hour journey talking about ME and my dreams. He never once appeared to care that I had not recognized him. He gave me ideas advice and encouragement that actually led to me working as a singer for a decade. When he got out of the car, I turned around and switched on the interior light. He paid me £20 for a £14 trip, and as he got out, he said: "Well, good luck with the gigs." And he rolled his eyes as he smiled in that Roger Moore way, and my jaw dropped as I realized who he was. He was one of the nicest, most caring people I've ever met.

I met Willy Nelson and he was the most down to earth person I've ever met. When he talks, he looks at you and he is soft spoken. I remember Willy Nelson had a wonderful laugh. Very sweet man.

I met Johnny Depp a few years ago delivering the mail and he was super nice and very funny. He asked me a ton of questions about being a letter carrier. 🤣

I've met a few so-called celebrities over the years. My favorite was Paul Newman. We met at Mid-Ohio race track while he was racing. We talked in the pits after the race and talked about racing, cars, and living in Connecticut, just small talk. We talked about everything but acting and I think he enjoyed it as much as I did, we talked for more than half an hour and the next day he spotted me in the pits again, called my name and waved as he was preparing for his next race. A classy guy who you wouldn't mind paling around with.

My niece saw David Bowie in South Africa at a nightclub. He was with his wife & friends. She waited for an appropriate moment & told him how wonderful he was. He signed an autograph for her & shook her hand. David Bowie was very gracious to everyone. He didn't like to be approached when he was with his young daughter.

I met David Bowie one time at Point Reyes National Seashore. We were both hiking. I had just come off a trail that was overgrown with stinging nettles and I had been stung by them pretty badly. He came up to me and asked me if I was all right and then talked to me for a while. I asked him if he was the man who fell to earth, he got a kick out of that, that anybody would remember that film.

Famous Tommy Lee Jones joke: a flight attendant keeps looking at him and he snaps at her asking “what the hell are you looking at”? She replies back to him and says “I’m sorry, I thought you were Clint Eastwood”. 😀

Ellen belongs at #1 on this list. I know lots of people in "the business" and they ALL say she's always rude and unpleasant--and has been that way since she was a standup.
If a person is deeply unhappy with themselves, all the fame and money in the world isn't going to fix that.

When Emmy, Golden Globe, and Oscar-winner Cloris Leachman was appearing on stage in Vancouver BC, she stopped at a local restaurant to have dinner before the show. A little girl recognized her and ran over to speak with her. Instead of acting annoyed or brushing her off, Leachman took time from her meal to chat with the little girl, and was very kind to her. Too many "celebrities" think they're gods.

I have met Johnny Depp twice and both times he was very sweet, humble and gracious! He gave me a hug and I got his autograph. He is very nice!

You left out Jennifer Lopez. We ran into her in LA once. She was the rudest, most snotty. filled with self importance person that I've ever met. Several people there remarked that she was well known for that!

I met Orson Welles as a teenager, during a trip with my folks to Los Angeles. I shyly asked him, "Will you give me an autograph?" and he replied, "Maybe. Will you give me some peanut butter?"

On the flip side of this coin is Jay Leno. He agreed to ask my wife to marry me on my behalf backstage at Caesar's Palace before his show. Nicest, most genuine, down to earth guy you could imagine. She said yes and we're still together 30 years later.

Johnny Depp should not be on here. He literally seems like one of the most nicest celebrities ever

One of my friends is an instructor at a very well-known trade school for car & truck mechanics just a mile or two west of Phoenix. He was in his class room, doing paperwork between classes, when he looked up to find Nicholas Cage standing in front of his desk! He extended a hand & said, "Hi, I'm Nicholas".
My friend laughs about it to this day, because the first thing he blurted out was, "I think your movies are great!"
Turned out that Nicholas' nephew was taking an associates' in automotive technology at the school and being a gear-head himself, Nicholas asked for a tour. He was an extremely personable, likeable man. He later donated one of his cars, a Ford GT-40, to the school.

When I was a kid, one of our neighbors had a one year old son who was going to have to undergo open heart surgery. She was very frightened. One of her idols was Bobby Darin, who had open heart surgery as an adult. She sent him a fan letter about her fears. He called her a couple weeks later and spoke to her for an hour. She said he was very soft-spoken and gracious and that he really soothed her. Bobby Darin died a couple of years later.

Lucky me! I never wanted to meet any of these "celebrities". Making movies does not mean you are important!

Beloved Alan Rickman had the phrase for all this:
‘Big ego, small talent’.
