Grandma didn't raise her son to act like this. He choose to do this all by himself. Not once did he think about how his mother would feel about him just up and leaving Molly and Molly's mom for no good reason other than "I want a different wife!" If he was truly out of love with Molly's mom, he could have done it better, but he didn't. So it really is no surprise his mother decided since her son was going to be a jerk, then he wasn't going to get anything from her, especially not money.
