I can always hear it . . there is always a slight mechanical/electrical twang under the sound . .I don't know how folks cannot hear that . .it's so inorganic

The fact that people usually just compare the raw vocals with the vocals of songs and say Autotune vs No autotune. Autotune is one effect which pitches the vocal note towards key of the song. There are so many things which make difference like Eq cutting low ends, increasing high end frequencies, delay, reverb, echo, other mic presets like radio, robot, alien type.

For the new guys... After this add some delay and reverb to the main vocal then back it up with panned vocals and some ad libs.

I can hear the difference. The latter lacks the natural timber of a human voice. It is a bit tinny to my ears. Would like to see the spectorograph of the latter compared to the former.
