A Newcomer’s Impressions of Star Ocean The Second Story R

We’ve played about 10 hours of Star Ocean The Second Story R and here are our impressions. Star Ocean flew under the radar of many and never reached the popularity of other JRPG franchises like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest, but it has garnered a cult following. Star Ocean The Second Story was originally released on PS1 but now has been fully remade for modern consoles. So is this a good place to jump into the franchise?

This game is a candy for the eye. It looks gorgeous even for Switch's today standards, and looks like a fun combat mechanic different from RPGs. Yeah, think I'll get it for myself.

I spent way too many hours on the original as a preteen/teenager. You bet your sweet bippy I already bought it and have it preinstalled. I might actually stay up till midnight just to play it

I mastered this game as a kid, wait till you really get into this game. It can get real hard and the crafting is the best of any rpg ever made. Wait till you get to end game and do the crazy dungeon on the island.

best jrpg in fucking years. octopath or no square game in recent no more like 10+ years is going to be this good. Gemdrops is fucking a legend. Hand them Valkyrie Profile R and Radiata Stories R next. You know this game is good esp when the fans of Chrono trigger say this is how you do a remake.

Got it on the switch. Getting delivered today. Always good keeping physical copies of these types of games from Nintendo and this will be my first star Ocean game too 🎉 cant wait but will be beating mario wonder first

Never knew about the Star Ocean games but seeing the gameplay, reviews and trailer this is a JRPG right up my alley. I thought Super Mario RPG remake was gonna be my next classic RPG in a long time but this Star Ocean remake took me by surprise. I’m gonna start this game this weekend and I’m so excited! And here I thought November was gonna be slow on games after a packed October, how wrong I was lol

SO2 the peak of Star Ocean, SO1 & SO3 were also absolute bangers but SO4 derailed the series it started the downfall, SO5 just didn't have the same magic anymore.

I still have the original on PS1 but when I saw this remake I was so excited. Now I'm just trying to figure out what graphic difference will be on switch vs PS5

This game is an essential must play when you get into JRPGs and this remake is no different now that accessibility won’t be an issue.

As someone who owns the original game as well as the PSP remake I'll say this much, don't forget to check out the private actions and other side quest style stuff it really does enrich the story past it seeming a bit cliched I know it's a day one purchase for myself because I'm a huge fan but I still do recommend a lot of people check it out

Purchased for PS5 and SteamDeck lol I never played a star ocean game and super hype after Demo, plus it’s a lengthy game that looks gorgeous 😊💯

Not sure if I’ll should get it on ps5 or my switch OLED for the go.. playing in 4K on an OLED is also nice though.. is it 60fps on ps5?
