The SNP leader at Westminster, Ian Blackford, asked the prime minister, Rishi Sunak, 'what right does a man with no mandate have to deny Scottish democracy?' in prime minister's questions on Wednesday.

This comes after the supreme court ruled Scotland could not go ahead with a second referendum on independence without Westminster approval on Wednesday morning. Scotland's first minister, Nicola Sturgeon, made a statement soon after to say they will find an alternative route towards Scottish independence. Sunak said leaders must work together, claiming the Scottish parliament is one of the most powerful devolved bodies in the world.

Denying the Freedom of a neighboring friend and country, while supporting the Freedom of another country far away... probably not the best thing to have said 🤦🤦‍♂🤦‍♀

Mr. Sunak is in great shape, I don’t think just anyone could dodge the question so dextrously!

For those still struggling to understand. The Scottish referendum took place *before* Brexit. I'm sure you would agree that the situation post-Brexit has changed dramatically.

The SNP has won 6 elections since 2014 with the understanding that they would be attempting to kick start another referendum on Scottish independence.

Whether you like it or not, the UK that the Scottish people voted to remain within is exceptionally different from the UK they exist in now. Scotland's majority also voted Remain in the Brexit referendum.

It’s bizarre that Sunak says in one breath that all should work together to support Ukraine against Russia’s imperialist aggression, and in the next to simply ignore the question when it comes to England’s imperialist refusal to accede to the Scottish electoral mandate for an independence referendum.

HOW can the UK deny Scotland its independence, while supporting Ukraine's fighting for its own independence against Russia?

Yes, the SNP certainly told the PM. Again and again and again and again. It's not like there's anything else more pressing in Scotland.

Can the snp shut up about this now its so tiring as a scot to see, the courts told you naw and you can't even give the Scottish people an idea of what currency will be used. Stop doing the easy work and shouting about independence whilst blaming the torys and finally fix our public services and education.

“Well, people have to be really clear that a vote for the S.N.P. is a vote for another independence referendum.” Douglas Ross, leader of the Scottish Conservatives, prior to last Holyrood election.

What has happened today makes it even more imperative for Scotland to leave this "union".

They took it to the courts, tough if it’s not the answer they wanted. The SNP were told many times they didn’t have a case.

Imagine the EU told England it couldn't leave the EU. Same thing with Scotland. Self-determination is for the people to decide, people can change their minds if something destructive is imposed as Brexit. That's how democracy works regardless if Scotland had a vote previously. One country should never dictate what another can and can't do it's inhumane and undemocratic.

They had a vote in 2014 and lost. If they had a vote next year and won, would they agree to another vote 9 years after that?

So, the UK have the chose to leave the EU, but the Scots can't leave the UK. So Hypocritical.

A London court makes a judgement of a Westminster law voted through by Westminster which has 533 English MPs, that the Scottish people from the Country of Scotland cannot hold a democratic vote to decide their future.
If the 533 English Westminster MPs continue to block the Indyref2 vote then it's a forced union.
Westminster tried that in Ireland and look how that turned out.

“I disliked Scotland and the Scots; the place I found wet and the people rude. They had the fine qualities which bore me – thrift and industry and long-faced holiness, and the young women are mostly great genteel boisterous things who are no doubt bedworthy enough if your taste runs that way. (One acquaintance of mine who had a Scotch clergyman’s daughter described it as like wrestling with a sergeant of dragoons.) The men I found solemn, hostile, and greedy, and they found me insolent, arrogant, and smart.”
