99% of humans need to learn this for themselves too

That’s a great piece of information and makes perfect sense. I was always taught that it meant the horse was focused and relaxed… thank you for sharing, I love your work!

There are so many junk horse people on these reels...this guy is about as good as you get.

I always wondered why some horses make that sound. Makes so much sense

I learned this from you Ryan. My horses never did it but I sure heard it a lot at shows. I had no idea! Always fun to learn something new!

I didn’t realize that, I thought it meant the opposite! This is often observed when galloping racehorses in the mornings. Makes sense that they would be super tense, they get no groundwork at all. I’m glad that I have never heard this sound with my horse!

You hear horses training and doing trackwork make it as they go past. I didn't know this. I was told it was just the way some horses nostrils were shaped or that it meant they were relaxed or working well. But it makes sense because they don't do it not ridden.

"High Blowing" at canter with normal inspiration/expiration is a sign of mental relaxation and I love it. But it's not shallow/rapid.

I never hear the term claustrophobic with horses. But it’s absolutely perfect. We would say when they feel boxed in, but that isn’t a complete description the way claustrophobic is.

I've been breathing shallow myself lately

I wish I had your advice when I was under 60 and used to ride. Before the hips left.

You are one of very few "youtube trainers" that I don't pick at through the entire video and yell at through the screen! Thank you for bringing some balance to the insanity of youtube "trainers"!!!!

Heyyyy, so do I. Short, puffy breaths. 😆 My first 4 yrs were raised side by side with the horses. As an autistic child, I'd always take ques from the horses and animals on behavior. Total social outcast later, but hey, I survived....and still adore horse breath.

It’s not always them being claustrophobic. Game horses tend to do it when they’re running or really fired up. My horse does it all the time when he is excited. If he isn’t in game mode, he doesn’t do this. It can also happen when horses aren’t warmed up properly so walking the laps makes a difference people! Don’t be lazy and say “eh, my horse walked down to the barn from the field, then to the arena. I’ve walked them enough”… NO! 2 laps each direction people! And don’t skip trotting and go straight to canter

I love how you inform! Tbh I don't usually know what exactly you mean since I've never owned a horse lol, but I love them so I enjoy learning about them

I hear this noise often in the show ring (I’m the mom and my daughter shows), but I hear this from other horses in the ring :’(

Its interesting that we know more about horses than mental illness.
I say this as at 55 I just found out autistic.
Been a horse trainer since 10 years old.
