Cweepyland Facts #1: THAT Alice in Cweepyland?
Показать описание
The Story and Inspiration behind Alice in Cweepyland.
Check out American McGee's Alice: Otherlands :D
I apologize for my tired voice, I recorded the audio after staying up all night to watch Eurovision (12 POINTS FOR FINLAND CHA CHA CHA!!).
The original story depicted in the sketches:
Alice makes her floaty entrance in Jeff's mind. She notices a cat sleeping on giant rock. Thinking it is Cheshire Cat, she talks to Grinny and realizes she got the wrong grinning cat. After introducing themselves, they both agree to walk together, but it's Alice who is doing all the walking with Grinny comfortably riding on her shoulder.
They wander into a garden full of roses. Most of the roses are white, but some of them are red. Grinny comments about a weird smell on the red roses, saying it's "almost like blood". Just then, Jeff appears out of nowhere and asks if they like the roses. Alice gives a compliment and asks if he is Grinny's owner, which Jeff denies. He offers to show them around.
As they walk, a chasm attracted Alice 's attention. Jeff says there is nothing down there, but Alice is confident that she saw something and decides to jump down the chasm, without realizing Jeff is watching them from above with red, malevolent eyes.
After falling for quite a distance, Alice and Grinny land safely. Sitting alone at the bottom of the chasm, is a boy with light brown hair, and wears the same clothes as Jeff... (TO BE CONTINUED)
The reason production was stopped in 2017:
During that time, I was still using Paint Tool SAI and Windows Movie Maker to make animation. In the second half of the story, there will be combat scenes which I wasn't sure if I'm capable of animating. It is likely going to take a long time, a semester break is definitely not enough, so it got delayed again and again.
After graduating and publishing Draw Jeff Challenge in 2020, I finally had the time and a better software to make Alice in Cweepyland. Reviewing the old sketches years later, I noticed that it literally is just THAT Alice, in a Cweepy place, there's no wonderland element. While brainstorming what to add, that very scene of Alice looking at a caterpillar popped up in my mind...
What if I add the Cweepy family members dressed up as characters from Alice in Wonderland?
That triggered a burst of ideas and changed everything. The whole script was rewrote and improvised into what it is today, which I'll talk about in the next Cweepyland Facts.
Once again, Ben saved the day. Comment BENSPIRED if you read until here! :D
