Laura Nyro was, in my opinion, the most talented singer - songwriter of her generation. Her music is timeless, infused with the magic and serendipitous whimsy that is her unique imprimatur. Her inclusion in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is long overdue, and while I agree with Lovemylovething that her original recordings have heart and soul, I would argue that Barbra Streisand owns "Stoney End" and always will, and that The Fifth Dimension took "Wedding Bell Blues" to the next level. It was the collaborative effort of LN and these other groups which made these songs shine. I hope that her music will be listened to and discussed for many years to come.

Even at the age of 10 I knew that Laura wrote and sang "Wedding Bell Blues" and "Stoney End" for HERSELF and her muse before others "covered" her songs. With a little research, the assistant curator at the RRHOF would have known that Laura appeared on Where the Action Is in 1967 singing "Wedding Bell Blues", and this was two years before The Fifth Dimension made it a hit in 1969. At the induction, play Laura's own recordings and let Laura sing her own songs! Her singing voice is amazing.

I was so happy Laura was getting her well deserved honor.I find it hard to believe that an organization that calls itself a hall of fame could screw up such an event.I was mostly happy because I thought she would get exposere to a large group of people.Ive been listening to Laura since I was a snotty nosed 10 year old Great artist's are always new to a new audience I just hope her covers of her own songs are passed on from generation to generation.

@LindaGail52 That's exactly right! The problem was, instead of working towards establishing Laura as an Artist in her own right, her manager/fair weather friend David Geffen, and the Columbia suits just took the lazy/greedy route, and simply farmed her songs out to already established radio darlings. But in every case, Laura's original recordings have much more heart and soul than the covers. HER versions are the ones that SHOULD have gotten the heavy rotation!

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame should demand higher standards from their research department. To misrepresent such an important American composer and songwriter the way you have only serves to diminish the reputation of such an organization."

I'm totally disgusted with this video and the hall of fames horrendoud mistake...like all you commented on her, Laura did NOT write her songs for others...she wrote them for herself..too bad the others got a hit out of her songs and destroyed them in the process into "pop". I've always wished the the radio stations during that time would have got a hold of her version of her songs "first" than be blown away in comparison to the ones that got hits out of them.

Hall of fame correct this!

They take forever to induct her, then misrepresent her legacy... disgusting.
