The problem is that the "Media" has changed. No longer is the "Media" about "News we need".

When I was a kid, I thought people who had no tv were wierd.
I cut my internet and cable tv last year at 37 and I realized they were less wierd.

HERE ITALY. About letting children go to school the problem is that childen became troyan horse for all the family and the comunity. they don't die but they got the virus and help to spread it. BE CAREFUL.

From the beginning people are being conditioned to fear. You can easily control the fearful.

Between the virus itself, and the crazed panic out there, staying home for a while is an attractive plan. I'm thankful to already have been working at home for some time. It's safer and calmer in every way.

The closing of events, schools, and large gatherings is designed to prevent community spread that will affect the oldest and most vulnerable. I’m not worried about catching it, my wife and kids aren’t worried about catching it. I am worried about my older diabetic parents that may catch it.

I have worked in sports TV for the last 25 years. The knee jerk reaction by canceling sporting events has already cost me over 30% of my annual income. As a freelancer it’s going to be impossible for me to make this up. I have child support among regular bills that will not only put me behind but a good chance of putting me in contempt or worse. All of my work for the year has been canceled. I am not scared in one bit over the flu virus but am panicked on how I am supposed to live without my income.

Is it a school crisis because of all the Grandparents and great grandparents raising school aged children???

They just canceled my live classes at my little university in Utah. I’m very frustrated because I don’t like online classes and I feel like this virus is such a ridiculous panic

I have to differ with Dennis on this one. Both morbidity and communicability with Coronavirus is much higher than with flu. It was not successfully stopped in the containment phase, which means that we must now “flatten the curve” by reducing social connectivity. This means that the great bulk of cases will occur over a greater time, avoiding a spike that would overwhelm medical infrastructure and put vulnerable people at much greater risk. Postponing large gatherings (including school and office work) and travel can have a high impact. Otherwise, there is substantial tail risk that is belied by the current low numbers of casualties.

Its because Trump is in office...that's it. I stopped being so scared as soon as they started blaming him and politicizing it.

Zero cases in my town. Zero. They've closed the library from March 14 - March 30 as a precaution. Give me a break.

This isn't a black-and-white issue, Dennis. Irrational panic is obviously not good, but so is minimizing the severity of the situation.

Mr Prager. I really hope you will have the courage to give a follow up talk on corona in say ... 2-3 weeks time. Wondering what you will be saying then? Stay safe America. Greetings from Belgium.

Maybe this is a good thing. The less time kids spend in the classroom the less time they're getting brainwashed

I teach at a state university and my classes have been moved completely online. My students have been deprived of an important component of education: face to face discussion and debate. Instead, they have been given nothing but heaping helpings of fear and confusion. This is a tragedy.
