Want to grow your following? Follow these 9 tips.

Growing your personal brand will help you attract more followers, leads and sales.

Here are 9 things to consider when building your personal brand.

1. Build Your Personal Brand First: Recognise that personal brands have more impact and visibility than traditional business brands alone. In today's market, personal branding is crucial for achieving cut-through, exemplified by figures such as Ryan Reynolds, Richard Branson, and Elon Musk.

2. Influencer vs Key Person of Influence: Focus on becoming a key person of influence rather than just an influencer. This means highlighting valuable insights, innovations, and stories about your business or industry, rather than merely showcasing your personal life. Aim to illuminate your business’s achievements and values like Tim Cook, rather than pursuing fame for its own sake.

3. Being the Spotlight vs Chasing the Spotlight: Actively share valuable content related to your business, including videos, articles, podcasts, and interactive materials. This helps establish your authority and expertise, making you the spotlight that illuminates valuable information and insights.

4. Own Your Authority: Don’t hesitate to position yourself as an expert in your field. Use your knowledge and experience to build trust, showing your audience that they are in safe hands with you, akin to how a doctor reassures a patient with their credentials.

5. Share Opinions: Develop and express clear, strong opinions on topics related to your field to stand out and be recognised. Having distinct, strong opinions helps form a recognisable personal brand identity and attract a following.

6. Too Reliant on Me: Understand that being a key person of influence doesn’t trap you within your business. It enables you to attract a talented team and create an ecosystem of products and services, facilitating potential exits or scaling opportunities.

7. People Will Google You: Ensure your online presence positively reflects your status as a key person of influence. People will research you online before committing to deals or partnerships, making a strong online presence crucial for seizing opportunities.

8. The Proximity Bias: Recognise the value within your business that you might be overlooking due to familiarity. Step back to see the full picture and appreciate the unique value of your stories, intellectual property, and connections that can be highly valuable to others.

9. Sharing Your Stories: Embrace the power of your business's origin story, mission, and vision. Sharing these elements can profoundly connect with your audience, making your personal brand more relatable, inspirational, and memorable.

Damn, dude, I was absolutely hating the idea of a personal brand. That whole influencer vibe is nauseating to me. With this new obsession with a personal brand, I was depressed, thinking I had to be that guy. But I love how you explained the "key person of influence" so much better. Yo, man, thank you so much for this!

One of many interesting things you do is repeat a lot. That’s a good thing. You repackage, take many shots at saying the same thing in a variety of ways. So you don’t need 7 unique hours of content, just 7 hours that consistently convey the message you’re trying to get across.

This is SO helpful! Branding yourself vs your business is a difficult topic that has a lot of confusing pieces to it, thanks to social media "experts!" You my friend, broke that narrative into simplicity, do able steps and comprehension 🎉! I am empowered NOW!

Thank you for this short but impactful video - your points are very helpful, of particular, the one about the proximity bias, how easy it is to not recognize or miss the value in what we have to offer because we either failed or neglect to make the distinction of the bias (being aware of our blind spot) - more like how to become more relatable to the audience you want to attack.

Ever since I came across your interview on the CEO seat I have never looked back and have been so enlightened in my life and given a new lease to life like this, money not been a forefront running factor for someone to educate and inform effortlessly. For the first time I see someone successful being so down to earth and speaking to basics and mechanics of new world we are facing to the future. Thanks so much

I like the last point, origin, mission and vision for when sharing your story. I didn't even realize I was doing the personal marketing brand with scheduling LinkedIn posts pertaining to the HR industry, thanks for the video and realizing I am on the right path💪🏾💪🏾

Very useful tips, thanks. What I have noticed from your videos and podcast interviews is that you are always very consistent with what you say across the platforms. It is a good to encourage people to have opinions, we live in an age where we do not want to offend but in reality not everyone will like us so we need to get over it.

Thank you for an awesome summary Daniel! Ever since I first found out about you back when you did your first podcast with Ali Adbaal you’ve been one of, if not he most, influential person in my life through your content! So thank you for that!! I’d actually like to return the favor a little with something that can increase the value of these videos with a super simple fix. I’ve noticed that in all of these videos that I’ve watched the color correction is so (sorry in advance) horribly of which makes you almost look dead (pale and if not that very cold/blueish) instead of having the warmth that you should have in your skin. In addition to this you could do with a color grade on top of that which could make you stand out more in the frame and also get the image to look more visually pleasing. I think I can solve this (I don’t want anything for it, you’ve done more than enough for me!) for you if you’d like, by helping you with everything from creating a routine on how to set the right white balance every time before you shot your talking head part and then creating a LUT that hopefully help create a consistent visual look of your videos. Just let me know if you want me to help you with this, I’ll happily do it!

p.s It’s so funny how you would put up this right now when it is the exact thing I’m currently grappling with. I actually just re-read Key Person Of Influence last week to get some more inspiration because I’m taking a few months of work to focus on building the foundation for life after medicine. I have a 18month employment left, that begins in June, to get my medical license, but after that I want to do something else entirely and your work has helped me with this is so incredibly many ways. So again thank you for everything that you and your team do!

I do believe we have to stand out in our market place and having strong opinions (and voicing them) is one way of doing this Do you have any other ideas on how we be seen to be different?

❤❤ great tips. Thanks. Love how you captured the typical traits of the British. Yep, it's not natural to sing our own praises, but now accept that's the way forward. 😊

Great stuff - thanks Dan. Re the Origin, Mission and Vision statement - what do you suggest we actually do with it? For example, keep it in a file for our own use, or publish on our website or elsewhere so that clients and customers can see it for themselves? Thanks.

Best takeaway is the Promixity Bias: things that are obvious to you and take for granted can be really valuable for others. Take a step back and change the perspective.

Great info as usual. Why all the clicking noises in video though? Distracting to anyone?
