With Proton on Steam I have every single one of my Steam games running on Mint just fine, from old mid 2000s single player titles to modern AAA online behemoths. With Steam's support for Linux via Proton nowadays it's closer to 90+% than 10%.

Biggest hurdle for me is drivers, peripherals, propriety software for Alienware, and Razer, it seems like Nvidia has a working driver for Linux RTX series, but suffering game performance and audio compatibility issues is a concern.

Windows market share is declining every year. Wonder why

i really want to find a reason to switch to linux... but i just cant find a good enough reason to.. everything is optomized for windows.. linux mint is a great looking operating system.. but what pulls me back is optomization for games.. which i use my pc mostly for.. :/ maybe on another pc i get ill install it or older hardwear is iwhere mint would excel.

1:07 It is true. At least in my case, I haven't yet ran across a game I couldn't run in Mint. Be it natively, through WINE/Proton, or through Bottles. Bottles especially is awesome. I can even run obscure 20yr old titles that even win10/11 won't run, even in compatibility mode. And Bottles compatibility mode is WAY superior to win compatibility mode. And some games actually run BETTER then on Windows.

Now yes, some of them need a bit of extra steps to get all the dependencies where they need to be, it's not as plug&play as Windows, but again. ALL the games I installed so far, I could get to work. No hiccups, no crashes. The trick is not to go through Steam if you don't have to. Or other 'launchers' like Epic Games, etc. Torrents work great, various 'off-channel' sites. I like to install directly into Bottles environ, then run from there.

Linux Mint is objectively a better OS then Win11. Subjectively ofc... it's not as plug&play, it sometimes takes extra steps to get things to work - but everything you can do on Win11, you can do in Mint. Maybe not as easy to get it going, but it works just as well once it gets going. Sometimes better. Plus some things Win11 won't run at all.

Oh and let's not forget - never worrying about installing the 'right' drivers. All included in the OS's kernel.

Allot more then 10% of the steam catalogue will play on linux, I think it's over 60% of games. I think the biggest issue with Linux is that of modding many of these games. I moved over to linux as a PC gamer, and I have not regretted it so far. he vast notoriety of my game library plays fine. Just today i tried out one of my most played games from 2010. Back then I tried to move over and the game refused to run in wine hence I stayed on windows. However I tried the same game today with proton, and it played very well.

I got 16 GB of Ram and Windows was using around 5 on a cold boot while most Linux distros use 1 GB or less. When Win 11 arrived I deleted Windows completely. Running Zorin 16 at the moment but might switch to Fedora or openSUSE Tumbelweed

What ever video editor you are using, you need noise removing from the static on your mic. Not sure what you use but for example in Sony Vegas you click the FX button, I cant honestly remember the FX choice but you add FX, play with some sliders and bam, the noise is gone, takes like 30 seconds. Also for anyone here I think Linux now runs about 50-60% of Windows games via an emulator called Proton.

Games on Linux Mint are just fine, if you play Steam. +- Whole MODERN catalog.

as said before.. proton is the way to go in linux/steam. But i wolud not run linux on a 100% gaming pc with a shitload of games when there is more problems with games and drivers. on my laptop i run linux and on 2nd pc that is more casual gamer with a handfull of games and in computer repairshop i dualboot when i need some windows software and there is great linux tools for repairing

So, the only practical advantage that Linux offers is that it's not very popular.

Freedom to choose is the governing factor. Linux drivers still big issue as using Linux causes severe eye strain in comparison to Windows.

cheers i am thinking of upgrading my windows 11 work pc to mint as windows 11 is garbage file manager takes for ever an apps take ages with edge etc I saw it running on m8s mint machine no lagg and tried in a virtual machine and works better than windows. My game pc will leave with windows for now but with steam deck etc the game support is taking off in linux so eventually hopefully i can drop windows completley.

I would use Linux if the application and gaming support was all there, but it's not. However, Linux is great for PC's that are old and maybe do some browsing, and other fairly universal tasks that don't get stuck in the DRM mess.
