I am more than happy with my 64gb ram set up especially now I have once again come back to Mint from Windows. Just have had enough of it all and glad to be back. Only thing I have had problems with is Valve/Proton/Steam set up. Still cannot run games from here but hey ho.

Everybody should have twice as much RAM as needed - so there is NEVER a bottleneck. RAM is that cheap and that useful for EVERYTHING.
Another thing is CPU and it would make sense to have a test-case of tasks that run for a few hours on EITHER desktop (cinnamon, mate, xfce) and measure how much WATT the entire PC draws (there are devices measuring WATT directly at the electricity outlet).
For me Cinnamon draws twice as much power as XFCE.

The comparison part of Firefox with 10 tabs for the RAM usage is and always will be unnecessary. It depends on what sites, what's their content, how well they're crafted, and of course working browser extensions (if any). It has nothing to do with a distribution itself.

is it just me, or Mate is somehow heavy on the CPU? The firefox 10 tabs Mate had the 4 cores around 21% usage, whille Cinamoon and XFCE were on 11%.
EDIT:
I'm running Cinnamon so i don't care for Mate.
