Is living on a boat really worth it? Are the rewards of sailing around the world worth all the work? These are questions we get asked all the time. It's also what Mel and Coop, our seasoned Coast Guard veterans, wanted to find when they signed up as our Curiosity Crew. Because they are beautifully rooted in Hawaii but are contemplating setting sail on a boat of their own.

So, after a full week of sailing with wild tides, unsettled weather, and anchoring challenges, we find out. Is liveaboard life what they expected? Did we crush their dreams or further fuel the fire?

________________________________
WE’RE JASON AND NIKKI WYNN. A couple of explorers, modern-day documentarians, and cultivators of curiosity.

We’ve been chasing our curiosity around the world on wheels and keels since 2011. Why? Because curiosity is the key to unlocking life. It pushes us outside our comfort zone, softens our assumptions, and helps us embrace the great unknown. The more we let our curiosity lead the way, the more we discover about ourselves and the world around us.

Things We're Most Curious About...

GETTING OFF-GRID
Our home is also our transportation and we spend weeks away from civilization and sometimes land. So self-reliance and sustainable living are a must. We've learned heaps about renewable energy, managing waste, creating safe drinking water and foraging for food. We carefully manage our resources and we’re always looking for new and better ways to do so.

TALKING TO STRANGERS
People are busy (even on remote islands) and travelers are a dime a dozen. It takes time to talk to strangers, and even more time to have a real connection. Going the extra mile to get to know someone is a commitment.

Which is why these are our most treasured experiences. Setting off into the world with curiosity as our guide and nature as our compass. We talk to strangers and accept hospitality without fear or reservations. Both giving and receiving.

ALTERNATIVE LIVING
These are people who are doing things differently. Forgoing the mainstream, seeking freedom and living on the margins. Creative, unique and inspiring people who challenge our ideas of home and community.

Our journey is ever-evolving but the mission remains the same: #CultivateCuriosity

Such nice people, warm, friendly and interesting. In a world where people can be so mean and distant this channel is a breath of fresh air.

Most interesting take-off from this video is that your shipmates emphasized that you both do very thorough planning for every passage, and that you both work very hard to make your videos factually true, informative yet entertaining. Sometimes it seems like sailing around the world is just haul up the anchor and set out. But to do it "right" like you, it takes lots of work, lots of planning and a fair degree of stress.

I love Mel and Coop’s professional insight on Maritime conduct and communications. True professionals!

Has anyone ever commented on how much Nikki looks like Audrey Hepburn? This is not a bad thing! This is probably the best sailing channel to watch, great production values, lots of information and always having fun!

I just don’t understand why the Wynn’s don’t have over a million subscribers. This is one of the most professional and honest videos out here. I’ve had the honor of meeting them and what you see is what you get. They are welcoming and friendly. It does not cost you a dime to subscribe so please jump on board and support these deserving couple. PS: I was not asked to say this by anyone.

I love your channel! Many times at the end of the day--after working at a psychiatric nursing home, I start watching your videos at I get ready for bed, --winding down for the day. I work most of the day in a basement therapy gym with no direct sunlight, so watching your travels is so uplifting. Your humor and wonderful way that you interact makes me so happy to see. Your ability to roll with the punches is so inspiring. Safe travels, and may the wind be always at your back.

I’m glad Coop and Mel a.k.a. Mini Coop came along on this passage and had a good time, they seem like wonderful people. Ty for you service. About 24:30 Jason mentions the water temperature is 28.9 degrees Celsius. I believe that’s 84 degrees Fahrenheit if I did that right. I didn’t realize the water was that warm, that’s fantastic. The air temp. is what, about 88 degrees? Great video as usual. I agree with Coop that I appreciate the work you both do on your videos. Safe travels Wynns

Nobody will ever understand the amount of work involved in this lifestyle until they have experienced it. Nobody can appreciate the amount of knowledge and effort involved in sailing until they have done it themselves. The sea will test your resolve and make you humble yourself.

I’m excited for next week’s video! I think one of the strengths of this channel is the mix of different types of content. I love that some weeks I get day in the life, some it’s more travel-focused (showing us a beautiful/interesting place), and sometimes it’s more informational like a mini documentary. I think the informational ones are my favorites, but I’d get bored if that’s all you did ❤️

Nikki and Jason, I’ve watching you since about 6 months after you began sailing, and after all this time, I must say that if I had the time, I could watch you non stop for hours on end! Still love you both more than ever, God bless.
