Reframing obstacles as opportunities is a game-changer. It's the difference between just surviving adversity vs actually growing from it. The Stoics didn't just accept hardship, they actively mined it for meaning and wisdom. And that allowed them to tap into a source of strength that transcends circumstances. We all have that same potential, if we're willing to shift our perspective. Simple idea, profound impact.

Overcoming adversity is not as simple as counting 1-10. You have to realize we are not meant to suffer permanently. Temporary hardships can somehow drastically alter the course of our whole lives.

Adversity loses its power if you respond to it with "is that all you got?"

Adversity is not meant to be overcomed, it is meant to be experienced just as any other part of life.

Here’s an idea…
We need to normalise different ways of having conversation starters.
Like let’s say instead of “complaining about the weather” why not it be
“what are doing today to heal?”
“What habits have you been trying to overcome?”
“What is the one thing you did today that you’ll be thankful for tomorrow?”

The more older I become and the more changes that happen…I’ve began to only find interest in people who have answers to how they overcome adversity in their life and how they went about facing challenges…something completely different and very rare to come across.

I’m not passing a good time, since two years life has been rough. I’ve been watching to your videos because I feel Stoics might have a more grounded approach towards life than religion, and I understand their perspective and their approach but I just don’t know how to rationally use their suggestions when life is a total failure

Adversity is the way. Don't run from it, embrace it.

I enjoy studying Stoicism and I find much value in it, but I also find it to be overly idealistic. Saying that circumstances are neither good or bad is silly; seeing your child die of cancer or your wife being raped before your eyes ARE bad things. And the idea that the Stoic sage can stay tranquil and calm in all circumstances is unrealistic. If I am going through a hellish experience, telling myself that these things are external and things I can't change, isn't going to do anything to help me maintain peace of mind. We can learn a lot from Stoicism (just as we can from Buddhism and many other schools of thought), but Stoicism (and these other schools) set unachievable goals that no one (at least that I have met) ever succeed in realizing. A good dose of Aristotelian realism comes in handy.
