Surface Pro 3 Unboxing, Setup & First Impressions

Earlier we got out first hands of the new Microsoft Surface Pro 3 but now we have our review unit in the BWOne offices ready to give it the full review treatment. The Surface Pro 3 may get Microsoft one step closer to the dream they had in the past.

What you're getting in the box is basic. Wall charger with USB port. The charging tip has changed from the previous Surface design but still has the same magnetic connection. The Surface Pro 3 includes an update Pen Stylus that feels more like a real pen. Its Bluetooth connected which you will connect during setup and takes 1 AAA battery that's included. The Touch Cover keyboard we have wasn't inside the box when we got ours it came outside in a separate bag.

The Surface Pro 3 hardware itself feels great just like all the Surface tablets do. The Surface Pro we have comes with a 4th generation Intel Core i5 processor with 8 GB of ram and 256 GB of storage. Around the Surface Pro 3 you will find a full USB 3.0 port, charging port, Mini Display Port, Micro SD card slot and the new and improved kickstand which lets you lay the Surface Pro 3 back a nearly 150 degree angle. The Touch Cover will also push up against the bottom of the Surface Pro 3 to create a better typing angle when needed. Another noticeable change is the Windows hardware button is now on the left which should make it easier to use portrait mode when reading. For software Windows 8.1 Pro comes preloaded into the Surface Pro 3 and has Office 2013 with One Note.

One thing that stood out the most about the Surface Pro 3 for me is the 12 inch 2K HD display. It's got a resolution of 2160 x 1440 and just looks amazing. Everything is so vivid, clear, colorful and crisp. It's a 3:2 aspect ratio that Microsoft says should make it much easier to read in portrait mode.

Overall my first impressions of the Surface Pro 3 is that it's fast, smooth and elegant tablet. One Not with the pen is something I'm very interested in along with gaming and video editing. Can those be done well on the Surface Pro 3? We'll answer that question and more in our review. Let us know what you think and if you have any questions or comments let us know.

Just to get one solid answer out on this question. As far as the Surface Pro 3. Currently no standard package comes with the keyboard. You have to purchase the keyboard separately. There are times where retailers might offer a special or a bundle to include it with but as of right now it's not standard when you buy one. The only item you get with the Surface Pro 3 is the stylus.

this looks like a really good device. great video. I would definitely get one if I didn't already have a tablet and a Chromebook

I might sound really dumb but is this like a tablet and a pc? So does that mean you can download apps like youtube and play games too?

BMW, Louis Vuitton, and Coca-Cola has already decided to deploy these in their companies.

Looks like it was already unboxed before.  The AAAA battery was already installed on the pen, the plastic wrap was already removed from the Surface Pro 3, and the manual was facing the wrong way.

So what kind of things do you think the surface pro 3 is oriented towards? Is it oriented towards gamers? Is it oriented towards office people? Is it oriented towards you tube editors? These are all the things im looking for, I don't know if I want to get this one for those though.

Dude, that was one hell of a fight! I was cringing at the thought of the power plug smashing into the SP3s display lol!

Can you comment on the keyboard? How does it feel? Would it be something that you'd work on for an hr or more?

Also, can the USB port on the surface charge other devices as well?

1) Pretty Good video
2) Be gentle with the thing man
3) Do you have any idea how to get it if you live out of the countries in which this is launched?

I have the surface pro (I use it as my laptop) looking to get the Pro 3 and I was really shocked cause its so expensive!! I know they are trying to market it as a full laptop and are competing against the Macbook but w/ no DVD drive and bad sound quality its not much of a threat. I really want it but I just can't justify buying it when I could buy something else that actually has DVD drive & at least decent sound quality. Guess I'll be staying with my Surface Pro for a

Did you cover the Stylus as an art tool? Using something like SAI or Photoshop? As you know, the Stylus has ditched the Wacom digitizer for something with far fewer levels of pressure available. Love to know about compatibility and whether the new. more limited pressure sensitivity is acceptable for art apps. Thanks!

I wanted to ask you one question!
I am a system analyst in a company and I do almost all of the stuffs with my laptop. I also develop certain softwares for my company. So, apps like dreamweaver and other heavy developing tools works too . My startup gets clogged every single time as I need all the apps for my day to day work and can't disable them too. How would you think this product will perform in my day-to-day activities. And I still love gaming too.I have a heavy laptop as I need whatever the world can provide me!! So, you know I tend to have a heavy laptop!! :(
Does surface pro 3 meet my workload?
