Tom was incorrect about the "choice" that Linux Mint gives.

Don't have a go at the Linux Mint developer's for doing what they think is right for their distro, they do at least listen to their users, we all in the Linux community should welcome developer's who seem to care, because most don't, and no I don't use Linux Mint, but I do appreciate their stand.

Seriously - copying and paste 3 lines of code isn't going to kill anyone! Mint have a KISS philosophy - Keep It Simple and Safe. Newbies coming across to Linux are in enough shock as it is and want an app store where everything is just going to be safe. Mint is for newbies - as well as advanced hackers that want a Linux distro that just works. By the time someone is at the point of questioning whether they want to use Snaps, they're probably going to be at the point of questioning whether they want to move across to Arch or something. They're confident enough to fly the nest. But some of us? We just want all those apps to be safe and approved - and as a newbie to Linux myself - I couldn't rave more about Mint's decision! If it's there and I can download it - who the heck needs more choice anyway? If it works it works!

Snapd does point to only snapcraft. If you read the blog you'll know that it's from 2016 and the new implementation does not work that way. Also in an interview Alan Pope said it himself that you can't do that with snapd and snap store is closed source, and he explained why that is. I believe Linux Mint did the right thing. And developers do need to hold our hand essentially for the new users sake.

switched to linux has a number of issues, 1 being he's a tinfoil hat dude and second an american so his conspiracy theories and mistrust of authority doesn't interest me. thus I'm not subbed to his channel.

Hey there, Hubby B here. I want to thank you so much for coming by today. I saw your “Where have I been” video. Glad to see you back. I was meaning to say hey when you came by but, as you saw, we had a little bit of trouble. LB and I both really appreciate your support. 🧔🏵

You are missing the point. Apt is backdooring snap with chromium now, who knows how many packages it will be in 5 years (lts release.) If chromium snap just showed up in software center or synaptic as a snap, that'd be fine, but for the command line package manager to go get essentially a different package manager without telling the user is unacceptable. Snap is coming through the walls, and I feel a great service has been done by mint in figuring out a way to shut it down, which I might not be able to. The only trade-off for this is that I have to make a tiny alteration to one text file that the mint team tells me how to do explicitly to get snap is so minor in comparison. Is there even a person in existence who knows what chromium is that can't edit a text file? This is not an issue for say, Solus, which supports snaps, but also uses their own package manager and doesn't have to deal with this kind of backdooring.
