Shark Week: What Discovery Channel Won’t Talk About

Some stories are forbidden from Shark Week because they’re too metaphysical, like historical accounts of shark shamans and demons.

Rob Counts wanted to uncover them anyway.

A newspaper article from 1884 that said Thomas Edison hunted a “demon shark” with electricity—which was really weird! With Shark Week upon us, Rob had to research more. What he uncovered wasn’t just a shark cryptid. It wasn’t just a Megalodon. It was an entire history of sea monsters and cryptids being seen in distant cultures across the globe.

Giant squids have been found, so the Megalodon isn’t hard to believe. The Kraken, Leviathan, water demons, and more were documented attacking people in historical legends. So is it possible that people even further back in ancient history encountered similar fearsome creatures, or even worse ones, and figured out how to deal with them, as well?

This is Metaphysical, so Rob had to look back—to the original chroniclers of local island folklore, old newspapers, accounts from Marco Polo, and creation stories across Oceania. He needed to know: could they have been documenting something terrifyingly real that was seen in all these places?

If you thought Shark Week was wild, just get ready. These are the shark stories they’ll never tell you on Shark Week.

I don't usually share this kind of thing but I have a story. I was hired to design and then paint on a large mural of various species of sharks. There were 15 species in total and it was a large mural so this took some time to complete. The man who hired me was creepy sometimes and he would get right up behind me and say things startling me or he would corner me in the back rooms and talk about nonsense. I swear his face shapeshifted into a shark while doing these things.

In the Polynesian Islands of Tonga, you cannot go swimming anywhere without local knowledge and information concerning sharks. It's a very curious fact (and sad) that the last foreigner to be killed by a shark in Tonga was a female c.i.a sgent.

I unknowingly ate shark as part of a banquet dinner when I was a tourist in Asia. Had already eaten the "seafood soup" course before finding out the gelatinous translucent strips in the soup were shark fin and lip. So, I just gagged a little, hearing your fun facts about toxic urine smelling shark meat and parasite ridden shark eyes… yum. 😂🤢

What ever has been on earth is still here in the spirit. Anyone who has the ability to see the dead and can communicate with them knows. So if the water also shows the dead. Those things that has been is still there. I know this because I have the ability. It's not something I use much. I might talk to dead family or murdered people to try to find out who did it. But law enforcement don't really care much for that so since I can't help them I don't do it anymore most generally.
